The diamond brand will launch next season the new Espace which, unsurprisingly, will be an “extended” SUV that can accommodate up to 7 passengers.
With this sixth generation, the Espace completes its evolution that began with the Espace 5 released in 2014 in the form of a semi-box crossover that did not attract much attention or enjoy the same success as its predecessors.
Australia, my great Australia
Based on the Austral platform and the CMF-CD Alliance, the sixth-generation Espace will be able to accommodate up to 7 passengers. This platform is already present in the Renault Austral, Nissan X-Trail and Mitsubishi Outlander models.
So the new Espace will be a “big” Austral with 5 or 7 seats on board. It will be extended at the level of its wheel as well as on its rear to allow the installation of two additional seats and a small trunk.
The aesthetic differences between the Austral and the Espace will certainly be seen in profile, and perhaps at the level of the front end and rear design (lights, rear shield).
This Espace 6 should also replace the Koleos which was until then at the top of the range of Renault’s signature SUV. Thanks to its 7 seats, this new diamond-shaped SUV will be placed in direct competition with the Peugeot 5008 but also with the Tiguan Allspace, Skoda Kodiaq or even the Seat Tarraco.
No diesel, no electric but an offer that could be attractive
This Renault Espace SUV will skip diesel engines with a 100% electric E-Tech engine. Only hybrids and plug-in hybrids or PHEVs will fit under the front hood. It will therefore be available from its launch with the 200 hp E-TECH engine launched by Austral (1 L3 1.2 L 130 hp petrol engine + 2 electric motors including alternator-starter). This power unit is associated with a 2 kWh lithium-ion battery that is recharged during the braking and deceleration phase while offering the possibility of traveling at low speeds, and for a few kilometers, without needing to use the gasoline engine.
The other engines will probably be the same under the hood of the Austral. So this future Renault Espace should have more electrified petrol engines (mild hybrid or full hybrid) with power between 130 and 200 hp.
The PHEV or plug-in hybrid version should arrive in 2024 but the manufacturer has yet to say anything about it. Others also mention the possibility of borrowing from Nissan and the arrival of the e-Power drive already present in the new X-Trail. Will continue during the official presentation to learn more.
In order for the business of the name to be well understood by all, the direction of Renault asked Sylvia Dos Santos, the person in charge of the name strategy and the direction of the sale of Renault to come and make a memorial near this name which is a part. of brand history.
Whether it will be officially presented in a few weeks or a few months, this next Espace will not arrive on the market until next autumn, when Renault will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Espace… minivan!
