On Tuesday 25 October 2016, MINI revealed the first images of the second and current generation of the Citizen. Since then, we have not seen a completely new model of this company.

It is five years and nine months. Almost twice as long as the MINI Paceman was produced.

MINI Aceman: bigger than the first Citizen

What happened? Nothing special. This is how the production cycles of the MINI mini range developed. In the years 2023-2024, there will be three completely new cars: the successor of the basic MINI model, the third generation Countryman and the Aceman, the model we have just seen.

The Aceman will be the new SUV in the MINI range, below the Countryman. The Countryman itself will grow so much that it becomes a compact city SUV. In the second half of this decade, the lineup can be completed with … a small car. The successor to the compact Clubman stands under a big question mark, and there is no room for a smaller hatchback than the 3-door MINI.

The body design of all new MINI is supervised by Pole, Tomasz Sycha. Aceman’s concept is the first preview of the design of the future.

Although the Aceman will be smaller than the Countryman, its model is larger than the first generation of this car (2010-2017). The Aceman concept is 4,050 mm long (so it is 47 mm shorter), but it is 29 mm longer and 201 mm wider (1,590 and 1,990 mm respectively). However, the model and its wheelbase are ahead of even the current Countryman (2686 vs 2670 mm).

The Aceman is a preview of MINI’s smallest model, and at the same time the biggest visual differences between individual models in the history of this company. MINI intends to break not only with leather and chrome, but perhaps even with a deep bonnet that extends over the wheel arches and lamp surrounds. This solution, although effective, greatly complicates the design, does not provide such good protection for pedestrians in a collision, and the first MINI from 1959 did not have it.

There will be a discreet, oblique embossing under the Aceman pillar, reminiscent of the “seam” of the MINI body from more than 60 years ago. The dashboard should also refer to nature and minimalism. In 1959 it was forced by the price of the car (low, so not much work) and technology (not refined, so not much work), today you can replace many buttons with one screen.

The granddaddy of all MINIs had a steering wheel on the dashboard, an instrument cluster in the middle, and five switches on the bottom. The concept of Aceman kept the first element, replaced the second with a round OLED screen, and under it also placed five buttons and buttons, this time including. by engaging the parking brake or controlling the audio volume.

The MINI Aceman will be offered with an electric drive only, and the range will be crowned by the Cooper and John Cooper Works versions. The basis of the car will be a completely new platform, intended only for electricians.

From 2023, some MINI models with such a car will be produced at a new plant in China’s Zhangjiagang, which is being built together with Great Wall Motor, a car tycoon from the Middle Kingdom. Will there be an Aceman among these cars? It is still unknown.
