McLaren Dealers Get A Preview Of $2 Million Hypercar Coming In 2026

The McLaren Senna may have been a monster, but it was bad. The brand wants its next hypercar to look even better

  • Codenamed P18, McLaren’s next hypercar is coming in the second half of 2026.
  • Although the P18 will have racing-derived aerodynamics, it won’t be bad.
  • The P18 will be powered by a redeveloped V8 hybrid powertrain that will underpin other future models.

The requirements for aesthetic design and aerodynamic efficiency are not always perfectly aligned, and you need look no further than the McLaren Senna for proof. While the hypercar looked amazing on the track, its appearance was just as shocking to look at. However, the automaker has taken this lesson to heart, and its next hypercar promises to be even more interesting.

McLaren’s upcoming hypercar has been codenamed P18, and is expected to land in the US in the second half of 2026. When it arrives, it will have F1-inspired technology, bodywork penned by McLaren’s new designer, Tobias Suhlmann, and will cost around $2 million.

This information and more were revealed during the retailer’s conference in Las Vegas on April 16, as reported by Autonews.

The P18 will feature an advanced aerodynamic design, with its body wrapped in McLaren’s new wind tunnel. This will include floating spoilers to improve airflow around the car, an active splitter below the “eye hole” headlights that can open and close to reduce drag, and a large air scoop above the C-pillar. cooling in the engine compartment and allows the driver to hear the V8 engine that will power the car.

The hypercar will also get a massive carbon fiber diffuser that spans the entire width of its rear end. The aero element will sit under two titanium exhaust pipes, and a McLaren P1 rear wing whose mechanism has been described as “jewel-like” by dealers who were shown the P18’s showroom before its debut.

Despite all that impressive aerodynamic design, McLaren works hard to ensure that the design remains cohesive. “(The P18) has many of the technical aspects of the Senna, but it’s more attractive,” the dealer told the publication. The supercar will also ditch the trademark butterfly doors for gullwing upper doors.

Under the hood, power will come from a new hybrid powertrain. The V8 engine at its core has been designed from the ground up and has nothing to do with the 750S’s impressive V8 or the Artura’s wide-angle V6.

The engine will be mated to a hybrid system that is 70 percent lighter than McLaren’s current equipment, thanks to a high-density battery that was first developed for the automaker’s Formula One racing cars. Unfortunately, the power figure has not yet been presented, but the P18 is expected to make more than 1,000 hp.

Although McLaren will produce only 400 examples of the hypercar, it will be an important model for the brand. A new V8 engine will power future models, and the P18 design language will be used for future cars, including the four-door model the brand is considering.
