Leon Madsen wants to build on the last strong GP / Speedway GP

Leon Madsen has been racing in Grand Prix racing for five years now and is now entering his sixth year. The Dane always finished in the top ten and won silver twice. In 2024 he aims again for the World Cup title.

In 2019, in his first World Cup season, Leon Madsen came very close to the World Cup title. The Dane won in Warsaw (Warszawa), Cardiff and Thorn (Torun) and took three GP victories. In the end he was two points short of Bartosz Zmarzlik, who was a touch better than Madsen and became world champion for the first time.

After fifth and seventh place in Corona years 2020 and 2021, Madsen won World Cup silver again in 2022 and became European champion. However, the Dane has not managed a Grand Prix win since 2019.

Last year, the 35-year-old Dane previously drove in an unusual way and was on the stage in Prague and Landsberg (Gorzow). While in Cardiff he even came second to last, but at the Danish Grand Prix Madsen returned to the top and started the last race until the 2023 season.

In Vojens, the Dane was finally able to win a Grand Prix again after 2019. With another podium finish at the season finale in Thorn, Madsen secured his place in the 2024 GP through sporting means.

“I want to continue where I left off last year,” said the Dane ahead of the 2024 season, “I feel mentally fit for the new season and we have the same goals as before. I hope I can compete for gold because I’m not getting any younger and I don’t just want to fight for the top 6 , but also to fight for the world title.”

In the Polish league, Madsen attracted attention with a strong run at the start of the Ekstraliga season last weekend. With 16 out of a possible 18 points, the Dane was the best driver of the day and was in good form early on.

The Dane also makes it clear what it will take to be able to intervene in the fight for the world title: “I think it is important to be mentally fit to be a world champion and I feel good about that as long as possible. But there are other things, like technology and also a little luck.
