Rolls-Royce Boat Tail: A million dollar model for well-heeled collectors

Rolls-Royce launches three boat-tail models for wealthy customers. The first example and the back of the picnic go to several collectors – for the equivalent of almost 23 million euros!

According to the Sweptail released in 2018 and at the customer’s request, three boat tails are created, which are based on the hull shape of sailing boats and at the same time should be unique. Accordingly, although all three Rolls Royce Boat Tails are based on body shape, they are individually designed for the individual customer.

Rolls Royce Boat Tail: “The Car of Fun and Celebration”

The first model presented is intended for a successful collector couple who already own a 1932 Rolls Royce Boat Tail. The modern definition is now intended to signify hard work, success, but also celebration: “A happy and festive car,” according to Rolls Royce, which you can enjoy with your family.

The couple is said to be rapper Jay-Z and singer Beyonce. The British daily newspaper “The Telegraph” speculates that the clear preference for “Armand de Brignac” champagne speaks for Jay-Z, since the New Yorker had recently sold 50 percent of the brand. Moreover, with its picnic activities, the car should remind the charming streets of the Cote D’Azur, a place that everyone likes to visit – also to celebrate many picnics. Another clue is said to be the interior blue “Blue Ivy”, which is a reference to Jay-Z and Beyonce’s nine-year-old daughter Ivy. According to insiders, Jay-Z signed the lower part of the grille and Beonyce signed the lower part of the tail logo, according to The Telegraph. Both signatures also adorn the engine cover.

The unique piece based on the current Rolls Royce Phantom (including the 6.75 liter V12) is around 5.80 meters long and features a classic front end with the brand’s grille and narrow headlights, as seen on the Phantom, Wraith and Co. The cap is hand painted in contrasting colors and the whole front is very long. The side view shows not only the rear hinged doors of the two-door car, but also the coupé-like roof and offset B-pillar. The eye-catchers, however, are the floating roof pillars, which guide the coupe’s shape at the rear. The rear view shows a very special design. Interrupted only by a small rear window, thanks to the spars, the roof ends with a large boot lid in yacht design. Narrow taillights round out the rear view. The slightly sloping boat tail is also supported by a rising apron.

Picnic equipment under cover

Rolls Royce particularly emphasizes the wood finish made with Caleidolegno veneer. This material is usually kept indoors and is specially adapted for outdoor use. Thanks to the linear wood grain as well as the thin stainless steel inserts, the yacht’s stern looks long and reminiscent of its nautical prototype. But the show is under the hood.

At the push of a button, the deck opens like two butterfly wings to reveal the unique interior. One side is dedicated to the aperitif, the other to the kitchen, complete with Boat Tail cutlery from Christofle in Paris. In addition, a double refrigerator was developed in which the customer’s famous champagne grapes can be stored at six degrees Celsius. The frames are highly polished and color coordinated with the bottle. For picnics, Rolls Royce also installed an extendable telescopic sun shade as well as dining tables and two chairs.

A smartly placed luxury pen, luxury watches for him and her

The interior of the Boat Tail is also arranged in blue leather in relation to the blue exterior color with rims and blue applications. The front seats are black, the rear seats have a light gloss finish – the seams and piping are made differently. By the way: Since customers are also collectors of high-quality pens, the most valuable Montblanc pen is housed in a discreet housing, made of aluminum handles and leather in the glove compartment.

In collaboration with Swiss luxury watchmaker Bovet, the automaker has created two reversible watches for him and her, which both can wear on the wrist. But they also find their place on the Boat Tail dashboard. On the driver’s side, the pilot looks at displays that are made using guilloché technology and again have blue accents. The two-tone steering wheel is also slimmer. Rolls Royce Boat Tail is fully homologated and road legal.

In early mid-2020, auto-motor-und-sport.de reported that Rolls Royce was working on the Boat Tail. At that time we were able to show the first black and white images that came from the patent application in Brazil on July 21, 2020 under the number BR 302020001203-8 and we applied for the 12th class patent for cars.

Conclusion

Rolls Royce shows that there are no limits to car design – when the customer is well-heeled. Not only can you make a lot of money with it, you can also show what the brand can do with unique production cars. Why the patent office application was made in Brazil is unknown and unusual. Maybe it’s related to one of the potential customers.

At a reported 23 million euros, the Rolls Royce Boat Tail is currently the most expensive new car, edging out the Sweptail at 10.5 million euros.
