Mechanical engineering: tank engines and power: Rolls-Royce Power record figures

Engine giant Rolls-Royce Power Systems achieved record sales and profit figures last year. Sales adjusted for special effects rose 16 percent to around 4.56 billion euros compared to the previous year, as the company with its British parent company and headquarters in Friedrichshafen announced on Friday. Adjusted profit rose by 44 percent to 474 million euros.

It’s the biggest sales and profit in the company’s history, said CEO Jörg Stratmann. This is despite geopolitical uncertainty, inflation and supply uncertainty. “We are in a strong position.”

Under the brand MAN In addition to yacht and tank engines, Rolls-Royce Power Systems also sells high-speed propulsion systems for ships and heavy land and rail vehicles. Power plants are also part of the portfolio. Hospitals, data centers and airports use diesel generators to protect against potential power outages. “We have a popular product portfolio,” Stratmann said. The main business is going well. “We have more potential for growth. And largely independent of global economic development.”

Rolls-Royce designs and supplies power and propulsion solutions for use on land, sea and space. The British engine maker primarily builds wide-body jet engines and announced in October that it wanted to cut up to 2,500 of its 42,000 jobs worldwide. It is not yet clear how many of these are linked to the German subsidiary, which has 10,525 employees in 32 locations, said labor director Thelse Godewerth. “We want to be very careful.” Despite the good progress, savings opportunities are still being sought.

Because of last year’s progress, employees will receive a bonus of 1,700 euros, Godewerth announced. According to the annual report, things went particularly well for energy systems for data centers. The CEO sees a potential increase in demand of around 20 percent per year in this segment. Stratmann also sees significant growth potential in the tank engine business for models such as the Leopard and Puma. “We have received the first orders from the Bundeswehr,” he said. There is also an increase in demand from NATO partners.
