Note: Potential fire hazard in Rolls-Royce Spectre

Rolls-Royce is recalling the Specter electric luxury car in the US through the NHTSA road safety authority. According to NHTSA, 107 vehicles are affected and recalled.

Production of the Specter began in the summer of 2023. According to the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA), 16 Specters are currently registered in Germany. According to a Rolls-Royce spokesperson, these have also been affected by the removal campaign. It is best for Specter owners to contact their authorized dealers to check if components need to be replaced.

NHTSA cites adhesive residue on the cable connector eye that is attached to the front power steering as a cause of the recall. This can lead to an increase in electrical resistance at this point. On December 20, 2023, the remains were first discovered during a pre-delivery inspection.

Possible fire hazard

Things can get complicated when a mechanic is doing a car inspection. In the worst case scenario, a thermal event (fire) may occur, although this is unlikely according to reports. So far, there are no known accidents or injuries related to the problem. Rolls-Royce stopped deliveries of the cars on January 11, 2024, before the voluntary recall was published.

During the scheduled visit to the workshop, the lower cable should be removed from all Specters and visually inspected for adhesive residues. If it is, the workshop will remove it and then reconnect the cable. Owners of affected Specter models in the US will be notified in writing about the recall starting in March.

And.Nope.

Rolls-Royce is recalling 107 models of the Specter electric luxury coupe in the United States. The reason for this is a possible fire hazard due to adhesive residue on the eyelet of the cable connection leading to the front electric motor. This affects almost 90 percent of the vehicles registered there.
