Roughriders’ Mario Alford Returns To The Farm Every Off-Season

Every off-season, Roughriders’ scintillating wide receiver Mario Alford returns to the farm, his childhood home and the source of much of his remarkable motivation.

Having grown up in the small town of Tifton, Georgia, Alford’s upbringing was uniquely shaped by the agricultural industry, which taught him lessons of hard work, discipline, and integrity that he has carried with him throughout his football career.

“My parents were farmers, so I’ve been around the farm my whole life,” Alford said. “You learn to appreciate the little things, like waking up early and getting the job done.”

In a league where success is often defined in terms of money, Alford’s commitment to hard work and dedication to his roots is a rare characteristic. He credits the farm with instilling in him a sense of humility and appreciation that has become a cornerstone of his football career.

“When I get home, I just want to go out to the farm, be around the animals, take in the fresh air,” Alford said. “It’s a reminder of how far I’ve come and how much I have to be thankful for.”

“I like to work out in the fields and the open space, so I can really feel the energy of the farm,” Alford said. “It gives me a sense of peace, and helps me stay grounded no matter how far my career takes me.”
