First look: Mitsubishi ASX – Dagelijksauto.nl

With the launch of the facelifted Mitsubishi ASX, the brand is regaining some identity. On April 3, 2024, Mitsubishi held a press event in Vianen. He did this here Mitsubishi a presentation about a new car. An everyday car he could be there.

A real face lift

Most of the facelifts we see are upgrades to existing designs that come out. Mitsubishi takes a slightly different approach and lifts the actual face. What do we mean by that? Very simple. The exterior changes are as follows: the front bumper (ie the face) has been updated. Well, there are also new rims, headlights and daytime running lights. But that’s about it.

By the way, we are not saying that it is not positive at all. We think it’s good to see Mitsubishi re-introducing itself. The brand itself admits that it is still very dependent on Renault. This seems obvious. For example, the background remains unchanged. While this one could also use the second chance. If only for a little identification. Fortunately, a facelift is not limited to the exterior.

Interior and infotainment

The biggest changes are in the interior. Besides the “floating” center console, a new infotainment screen has also been installed. It measures 10.4 inches and is placed in a portrait configuration. It can also be integrated with Google Car Services, more on this later. A small screen version is available. This one measures 7 inches, but it won’t come to the Netherlands. Dutch people want more! According to Mitsubishi.

When choosing upholstery, you can choose between leather and fabric interior. We leave it up to the customer to decide which one to choose, both options are very well executed. In our opinion, no option is inferior to each other. So just choose what you find beautiful and interesting. Forward visibility is excellent from behind the wheel. The entire space in front is good for the driver and co-driver. What’s more, the rear view through the small rear window. The rear seat is suitable for children. Or men of about 1.65m (like the undersigned). Tall people may feel a little cramped. It’s not about headroom, there’s plenty of it. There is no legroom, but not at all.

This photo was taken in the back seat. That worked for this editor.

Integration of Google services

A major change for Mitsubishi customers is the integration of Google in infotainment. This covers things like navigation (Maps) but also voice control. This allows customers to use, for example, seat heating or climate control by saying the sentence: “Hey Google”.

If you are not a fan of Google, or attach great importance to your privacy. Then Mitsubishi has a solution for you. You don’t have to use Google. In fact, the versions at the beginning of the series are not as standard. However, it can be selected. Does the customer choose a service during setup? The car will then ask you to sign in with your Google account. If you don’t do this, you will restrict yourself to the infotainment.

Options, options, options

With 4 performance package options, you could say that there should be an option for everyone. There are “Inform”, “Invite”, “Intense” and the top of the range “Instyle”. All variants are available in 5 colors. In addition to the classic options such as black and white, fortunately red and blue are also available. Go crazy, because the color red suits the Mitsubishi ASX well. With black color the lines of the bodywork are very faint. Loss of fine structure.

Interestingly, Mitsubishi is dropping the PHEV version. The reason? Sales figures showed that PHEV accounted for only 1% of total sales and that is definitely not enough. The offer remains the same, except for the changes mentioned. The chassis has not been changed, the engine is the same and the power is unchanged. There are 4 engines to choose from. The most powerful option, with 184 hp, has a maximum pulling power of 1500 kg. As the customer expects, there is a choice if they want an automatic or manual gearbox.

Why should you as a customer choose the facelifted Mitsubishi ASX, and not either Renew Renault Captur? Basically the cars are the same, the same safety systems, the same engines, the same chassis, etc. The choice is really up to the customer and what he wants. In our opinion, the Japanese seem stronger and tougher. The French one has a slightly rounded design at the front.

The warranty period in Europe for the new Mitsubishi ASX is 5 years or 100,000km. Mitsubishi Holland thought this was not enough and added 3 years and 60,000 km. Dutch customers receive a manufacturer’s warranty of 8 years or up to 160,000 km. Normally, as required by law, an unlimited km warranty applies for the first 2 years.

We are looking forward to a test drive in the new Mitsubishi ASX! Once we have done this, you can easily read it on Dagelijksauto.nl
