Something strange is going on in the first Ford Kuga police car

Top police leaders think it’s time for Mercedes B classes to be replaced by new ones. That’s why research has been started where other cars can be used as official cars. Analysis has shown that Ford Kuga and BMW X1 will be the official new cars. Now the Dutch police are starting the final tests of the Ford Kuga, but something is wrong with it.

The Dutch police have ordered three Kuga cars from Ford for the tests. The cars have all the equipment that a police car needs. Think sirens and flashing lights, but also the right stickers and side steps. If the test goes well, the Kuga will be a real police car in January 2025. And by Kuga we don’t mean the car in the picture above.

This is not the Ford Kuga of the Dutch police

If you are familiar with the new Ford Kuga, you will immediately see what is wrong. Kugas are pre-facelift versions. ‘Well, the police don’t get the latest Kugas, so what?’, you might think. That’s not the case. During the presentation of the facelifted Kuga, Ford Netherlands confirmed that this updated model is the vehicle that will be used by the police.

Why are the police now practicing with old man Kuga? We put that question to Ford Holland. ‘The final presentation will definitely be an updated Kuga. “In order not to slow down the process, these test cars are still pre-facelift type,” says Ford. In other words, the updated Kuga is not yet ready to hit the streets, so tests are now taking place with the old version.

At the beginning of next year, the police will be allowed to drive the Kuga hybrid which is not normally offered here. Dutch customers can only get the 2.5 liter plug-in hybrid powertrain. This one has a separate gearbox, just like the next generation FHEV. The test Kugas has the same engine and transmission as future police cars. However, below you can see the first three copies of the Ford Kuga passing the Dutch police.
