Renting a Cupra Born and recharging at home, a winning combination?

Cupra runs an unlimited and free charging model. Offer which will be given to any Native found… under lease.

Rather than cut prices and undermine residual value and destroy existing leases, some brands prefer to offer “gifts” to rental customers without affecting the price of the car. A great way to attract viewers and manage discounts on their electric cars, in particular. Tesla was also one of the first manufacturers to offer this generous gift of free and unlimited charging to early Model S customers. And today, it is Cupra that takes Born, but in a funny way.

Unlimited, but only for rent

Cupra has not gone so far as to offer lifetime free charging at express stations to birth customers, as Tesla was able to do to its former buyers on the Supercharger network. The Iberia brand has been more discreet as the “free” version of Born charging is only reserved for rental customers.. This allows the builder to assess from the outset what the cost is, and then apply a discount to the rental price.

To benefit from the free “fuel”, you will therefore have to choose a contract of 36, 37 or 48 months and 10,000 km annually. According to Cupra, free charging is equivalent to a discount of €3,000 on a 3-year contract or €4,000 on a 4-year contract.

The cost of recharging electricity calculated on the basis of the average electricity consumption for a car in the CUPRA range Born with a price per kW/h of €0.59. Additional cost of refills to be covered by brand subject to validity.”

The Cupra started from an average consumption of 16.8 kWh/100 km to achieve this reduction of €1000 per year.. Value close to WLTP approval.

In summary: you will get good value for your money when you connect. But it will already be compensated by the discount used by Cupra for the monthly payment, based on the estimated price per kWh and the mileage which in any case will be reduced to 10,000 km. And Cupra continues to be generous by offering the customer the possibility of refunds for payments exceeding €0.59/kWh. Which is still very rare in France.

And of course, if you charge closer to home with a kWh at 22 cents, you’ll get the most out of the Cupra discount. In fact, a discount of €1,000 per year is equivalent to approximately one hundred payments of 10 to 80% on the regulated rate of EDF. It is enough to drive more than 20,000 km per year with the contract limiting it to 10,000 km.
