In Indianapolis this Friday, May 27, 2023. the last test and the final test session of Carb Day 2023 was a little different than usual.
Usually, the teams keep their distance to avoid problems, giving their drivers as little as possible and this without taking unnecessary risks for the 48 Hours of the event that is the Indy 500 every year.
But this year however, on the other hand, many of the main characters took full advantage of the changes, and even the tense and chaotic situations …
Several drivers have exceeded 80 laps, with Josef Newgarden and Rinus Veekay even reaching 89!
Many teams worked on race setups, with different results also from qualifying due to different weather conditions.
The most promising case is – pleasant surprise – that of Andretti Autosport, with Kyle Kirkwood in fifth and Colton Herta and his French driver Romain Grosjean in the top 10!
It should be said that on the contrary, other teams have chosen a different strategy, stopping around fifty laps completed on the oval, especially McLaren, while others like Ryan Hunter-Reay have encountered problems (gearbox) and preferred to concentrate. to modify them, or had to adapt to new conditions, as Graham Rahal of DRR:
Good results for Jack Harvey, the “Cinderella” of RLL qualifying, and Conor Daly, outside the top 10, while Foyt’s team looks to be among the most troubled, especially for Santino Ferrucci.
And suddenly already visible and on top during free practice, Japan’s Takuma Sato – a former winner of the event – finished in command, followed by Scott Dixon, Will Power and Alex Palou.
Sato who told the secret:
We are exactly where we want to be. My guys have done a great job all week.
It is surprising that the sixth Agustin Canapino, a young musician, Argentine musician and Juncos Hollinger team.
Finally, with the sports aspect only, let’s talk about the condition of Stefan Wilson, who, after breaking the thoracic vertebra following a collision at the beginning of the week in contact with Katherine Legge on Monday, was operated on by hit!
