Scout Motors hires Jeep’s Chris Benjamin to lead off-road electric SUV and pickup design team; It is improving production by 2026 for electric pickups and SUVs

A year after the Volkswagen group created subsidiary Scout Motors to respond to the market for electric SUVs and pick-ups, the brand has appointed Chris Benjamin as Chief Design Officer. During his design career, Chris Benjamin has worked for several major automotive companies including Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Volvo and most recently as Chief Interior Designer at Stellantis.

During his time at Stellantis, Benjamin was responsible for the interior design teams of Jeep, Wagoneer, Chrysler, Dodge and RAM, demonstrating that he has extensive experience in modern vehicles designed for off-road terrain.

Benjamin also confirms that the VW subsidiary will revive the Scout brand beyond the name, giving us an idea of what to expect as we approach production scheduled for 2026. It’s still a long way off, but it looks like we should expect an electric SUV and pickup truck platform that combines looks. rugged and modern with modern technology.

My job now is to find a balance between the classic design language of the past and all the possibilities of innovation offered by electrification.

The retro aesthetic seems to be on the rise, if we are to believe the recent forays of Volkswagen and Hyundai into using nostalgic design elements in cars like the VW ID.Buzz, the amazing Hyundai Ionic 5. , and the N Vision 74 concept car that unfortunately appears intended for museums.
