Seat Ibiza after 1.5 TSI FR facelift

Seat Ibiza after 1.5 TSI FR facelift

Commuting to work, taking the children to kindergarten or school, visiting the doctor, shopping at the store, a weekend trip to the farm – these are the most common challenges we face with section B. Pressing the gas harder, turning a corner quickly or finally look at them? After all, not everyone can or wants to drive a luxury limousine or a GTI. For people who expect something more from a small car than just moving from point A to point B, Kiti offers the Ibiza 1.5 TSI 150 KM DSG FR for as little as 99 300 PLN!

The fifth generation Seat Ibiza has been on the road since 2017, but it was modernized last summer. Outside, the shape of the bumper has been changed, the rear has a new “Ibiza” lettering, and the top-of-the-range FR has LED taillights. Inside, the dashboard has received new finishing materials, illuminated LED dust jackets have appeared around the air vents, and the possibility to order custom clocks is also a new thing. Multimedia is updated, has volume control, WLAN connectivity and offers better integration with smartphones. In the Ibiza automatic facelift, we can order automatic high beam, adaptive cruise control, road sign recognition system, blind spot sensor and lane keeping assistant.

Seat Ibiza 1.5 TSI DSG FR – sporty accents

The top engine variant (1.5 TSI / 150 HP DSG) is only available in the more expensive FR version, which has many sports features. On the outside, it is distinguished by 17-inch alloy wheels, sports bumpers, tinted rear windows and full LED lighting. Inside, there are Le Mans sports seats (adjustable front height), a black headliner and a multifunction sports steering wheel in Nappa leather with red stitching, which can also be found on the handbrake lever.

Seat Ibiza 1.5 TSI DSG FR – a nervous start

Sports accents are a good match for the good performance of the car, as the 150 hp four-cylinder TSI allows the City Seat to accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in 8.2 seconds and speeds up to 216 km / h on the German road. There are, of course, B-segment cars that can accelerate to “hundreds” at speed, but then have a 200 hp engine and a GTI badge on the tailgate. The 1.5 supercharged petrol engine bursts with power from low revs. Combined with the 7-speed DSG gearbox, it can shake the car unpleasantly when taking off, which can cause problems. For example, when driving in a parking lot or turning back, you need to slowly and gently press the gas, otherwise the car will make an unhappy kangaroo and we can damage it. Fear at the beginning is also annoying during the start of the skid, often ends with spinning of the front wheels and the intervention of the ASR system.

Seat Ibiza 1.5 TSI DSG FR – low fuel consumption

You just need to remember about these nervous collisions and they are basically the only imperfection of the car. In addition, we praise the engine for its good performance, excellent flexibility, and the DSG gearbox for quick gear changes, accurate reading of the driver’s intentions and the ability to change gears using the paddles on the steering wheel. The results of the fuel consumption test were a big surprise during the Ibiza test. We expected a 1.5-liter TSI unit with a large surplus of power to use 9-10 l / 100 km, while on the measuring loop we recorded a result of 6.7 l / 100 km.

Seat Ibiza 1.5 TSI DSG FR – correct, very hard

The chassis, which has been strengthened in the FR version, has also been adapted for the car’s sporty appearance and above-average engine performance. The test model also had the optional Two-Way suspension (part of the Red package, which also includes red seat belts and brake calipers), which – as the name suggests – offers two levels of shock absorption stiffness (Normal and Sport). and 18-inch alloy wheels with low-profile tires in size 215/40. We agree that this chassis set-up is suitable for stable driving in the curves and highways, but only on the condition that the surface is as smooth as a table. When there are potholes or asphalt joints on the path, and in the city we run on a pothole or a track, the reduction of the level is not gentle. A strong shock reaches the interior of the car, and when we select Sport Mode, the car even bounces like a ball on poor surfaces. We wouldn’t be complaining if the chassis tuning was like that on the GTI, but “normal” is a bit of an exaggeration. That is why we advise people who plan to buy an Ibiza 1.5 TSI / 150 HP to skip the purchase of good 18-inch rims and stick to the standard (FR version) 17 wheels.

Seat Ibiza 1.5 TSI DSG FR – efficient brakes

Rigid suspension, low tires and direct steering make the car immediately and with high precision carry out the driver’s commands. Sports driving is also recommended by a good braking system (discs on both axles), which, on summer tires, can stop the Ibiza from 100 km / h in a distance of 35 m.

Seat Ibiza 1.5 TSI DSG FR – comfortable for 4 people

The 5th generation Ibiza is only available in a 5-door hatchback body. Its front cabin is spacious, sports seats are comfortable on the road and fully support the body during cornering, and the steering wheel, placed on the ground and perforated with perforated leather, is closed by hand. In the Ibiza’s interior, we liked the easy-to-use DSG gearbox and auxiliary brake levers. We will also praise the series in this edition of virtual clocks, which are readable and have attractive graphics. Multimedia system with built-in card eSIM impresses with ease of use, screen quality and excellent compatibility with smartphones.

Red air vent covers are a hallmark of the facelifted interior. On the one hand, they perfectly match the red stitching on the steering wheel and seats, but the light from those on the edge of the dashboard can reflect on the side windows at night, reducing visibility in the rearview mirrors. Fortunately, in such situations, the ambient light can be dimmed or turned off.

Seat Ibiza 1.5 TSI DSG FR – practical trunk

In the second row of Ibiza seats, the amount of space is not spoiled. While adults have enough space above their heads, there is room to connect at the knees. However, this is a common problem in B-segment cars. The Ibiza’s characteristic is a spacious trunk. 355 l is a value that was offered by large hatchback trunks not long ago. The luggage compartment is not only spacious, but also functional, because thanks to the two floors, after folding the backs of the sofa, we can get a flat surface. We were also pleased with the standard spare wheel in the cargo area.

Seat Ibiza 1.5 TSI DSG FR – not cheap

Ibiza face lift prices start at PLN 64,300. Here’s what we’ll pay for the lean Reference variant with the underpowered 1.0 MPI / 80 HP three-cylinder petrol engine. The test version of the FR with a lot of equipment and a 150-horsepower engine costs about PLN 99,300. It must be admitted that this is a very expensive car, especially since the price of the test unit, after refitting the options, exceeds PLN 100,000. zlotys. Consolation for those interested will be the news that the Ibiza has the best 5-year mechanical warranty among the B-segment cars of the VAG group.

Seat Ibiza 1.5 TSI DSG FR – in my opinion

The Ibiza 1.5 TSI DSG FR is a great recommendation for singles or people with grown-up children, who are looking for a car that will work in the city every day, and at the same time will offer a good drive and great dynamics during longer trips. Yes, it is very expensive, but it has a modern interior in sports mode, a powerful engine, automatic transmission and is well equipped. Because of the stiff chassis, however, it’s not a car for everyone. Those who like to drive faster will be delighted. People who value comfort should stay fine with regular rims.
