Van Mossel adds VW, Audi, Seat and Skoda to the Belgian portfolio through the acquisition of Garage Mertens.

It was already announced in November 2023, but it became a reality yesterday: the largest car dealer in the Benelux has acquired Garage Mertens and thus expands its Belgian portfolio with the volume brands of the VW Group. With this acquisition the circle is complete in a sense, because it is with the Volkswagen brand that Van Mossel’s story began in Holland.

After a careful process in the Belgian competition authorities, Van Mossel is pleased to announce today that the acquisition of Garage Mertens is final. “We are very pleased that the takeover of the Mertens group is now final,” says Eric Berkhof, General Manager of the Van Mossel Automotive Group.

We have received D’Ieteren’s confidence to expand our offer from 25 to 31 car brands in Belgium by adding 6 popular brands from the Volkswagen group.

Six? Yes, it covers VW, Audi, Seat and Skoda, but also Cupra and VW Commercial Vehicles.

Garage Mertens, a name founded in the province of East Flanders, becomes part of the Van Mossel family. Therefore, the area between Antwerp and Ghent is now also part of the Van Mossel network. The group has showrooms in 4 locations in 3 cities. Two Wondercar bodies are also owned by Mertens and a wide range of used cars are offered. From today on, all of this will come under the Van Mossel name.

“Monday, April 8, will go down in history as an important turning point for Van Mossel,” said Koen Claesen, CEO of Van Mossel Belux. “Mertens customers can rest assured; their trusted service is maintained, but with the addition of Van Mossel’s comprehensive ‘one-stop shop’ concept. With us, the customer will find everything they need, from purchase and maintenance to insurance, financing and options In addition, we have an experienced Fleet team that ensures a seamless fleet management experience.
