Subaru Legacy will be sent to retirement after 2025 | Car news

Subaru has announced that 2025 will be the last year for its Legacy sedan. The model has been produced since 1989. In fact, it arrived before what is considered to be the variant of its family, the Outback SUV (even if a true Heritage vehicle was also produced during the first generations of the model).

In total, we will have seen six generations succeeding each other. In the US alone, the company will have sold 1.3 million copies. However, in recent years, sales have declined to the point where we no longer see the new Legacy on the road. The company’s decision is not a surprise.

The company is taking it philosophically, saying that while the Legacy is the oldest model in the range, its departure reflects a shift in the car market towards utility vehicles, as well as Subaru’s transition towards ‘electricity’. To give you an idea, the company sold some 25,000 Legacys last year, compared to 160,000 Outbacks.

Subaru has confirmed its plan to produce eight all-electric models by the end of 2028, meaning seven will be added to the Solterra, the only one currently offered. Three SUVs are expected to be launched in 2026.

The 2025 Subaru Legacy will appear in dealerships this spring. In the United States, it is announced at the same price as the 2024 model, which bodes well for Canada.

What will be worth watching is the future of the Impreza, which is intended to be the SUV version of the Crosstrek. Its stance is less dangerous than that of the Legacy, but compared to the Crosstrek, its sales are low; 34,000 units compared to 159,000 It should last a long time because the sporty WRX remains the “correct” product for the company.

However, the fate of the classic car has received another blow due to yesterday’s announcement.
