GM Design shares a new rendering of the Buick concept | Car news

• GM’s design department has released a photo showing the design of the Buick concept.

The Instagram page of the General Motors design department often provides us with sketches of cars that show the work of its designers. Recently a sketch appeared showing what an electric Blazer based on the original K5 model could look like.

This week, the Buick SUV sketch is in the spotlight. The work is signed by architect Geoffrey Richmond. The latter gave life to an elevated SUV with very generous ground clearance, large wheels and a body inspired by the new stylistic language of the brand. We saw this for the first time with last year’s Wildcat concept, and it is carried over to the brand’s latest products.

This signature will also be that of Buick’s first electric SUV expected here at the end of the year, the Electra E5.

For the design, it stands out. The front is dominated by very thin daytime running lights located on the edge of the hood. They are accompanied by headlights that are mounted on the front ends of the car. The fins placed on each side of the hood seem to be a logical extension of the belt line and give a unique look to the model. The rest of the bodywork looks very smooth and we also see the reduced windows, a result of the high belt.

Of course, this is a sketch; no production model would look like this, but its design may be inspired by it.

And this is where the drawing gets interesting. It shows the extent to which creative minds are allowed to express themselves at GM. For a brand like Buick, which needs to revive its customer base, this is even more interesting.

Also, what we can see from the interior and the headlines makes us understand that we are in front of a three-row model. It’s clear that all manufacturers including Buick will want to offer alternatives to the Kia EV9, Rivian R1S and Volvo EX90, not to mention all the other three-row electric models that are planned across the industry.

What we should remember from this drawing is that Buick definitely intends to make a big impact in this segment, which will have several other electric models to present to us at the end of this decade.

Let’s not forget that the brand has reserved nine names for its future electric products, which are Electra E1 to E9.
