Dodge Charger Daytona, the muscle car becomes electric with 680 hp but the V6 will also arrive in 2025.

The automotive world is constantly changing. Electric transmission is becoming more and more popular in the world of four-wheelers, so much so that it involves cars that we would never see powered by an electric motor. This is the case of muscle cars that will move from the glorious gasoline V8 to the quiet, but no less fast, electric motors. The dreaded day came when Dodge launched the new Daytona Charger, will its 680 HP be enough to make you forget the smell and noise of gasoline engines?

Despite being a breaking point and in the past, the Dodge Charger Daytona exterior follows the design that made the history of the Stars and Stripes muscle cars. Available with two and four doors, the new American car reinterprets the iconic style of its predecessors in a modern key with clear and clean lines that, at the same time, give it a muscular and aggressive tone.

While remembering the Charger from the 70s, the Daytona features a front end with an aerodynamic grille capable of directing airflow towards the bonnet, improving front end stability. The front LED lights are connected to each other by a light strip, while the rear ones form a circular pattern. In the side view you can appreciate the high belt line of the tires that fit 18″ to 20″ rims. There’s also a gloss black roof and panoramic glass on request, with eight colors available.

Very technological Also in the passenger compartment, the Dodge Charger Daytona has a 12.3-inch infotainment display in the center of the dashboard that offers wireless connectivity for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Although the instrument panel has a digital screen of 10.25 “which reaches 16” on the ScatPack, on request there is also the possibility of having a head-up display. The steering wheel, with a flat edge, has many controls on the speakers that allow you to choose between several driving modes (Auto, Eco, Sport, Wet/Snow, Track and Drag) as well as the Power Shot feature that provides an additional power of 41 HP during speed up.

In the middle tunnel, in addition to the start button, there is a gear selector lever with a pistol grip. There is no shortage of sports seats in eco-leather and fabric, the optional ones covered in Nappa leather and heated, covering and containing. When the rear seats, due to the flat floor, have been lowered, it also ensures a high-capacity boot that varies from 644 liters to 1,059 liters with the rear seats folded down.

La Dodge Charger Daytona introduces for the first time the Stla Large platform from the Stellantis group, a very flexible platform in terms of dimensions and powertrain that will also be used for the future Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio, as well as the Maserati Quattroporte and Levante. Length 5.25 meters, width 2.03 meters and height 1.5 meters, the American car has an excellent distribution of weight due to the fact that it involves the use of two electric motors, one for the axle, which includes an inverter and a gearbox, each producing 340 HP.

It was originally proposed in an electric version with integrated traction only, the Charger will be sold in two trim levels. In the R/T version the two engines produce a total of 503 HP and 548 Nm of torque, ensuring 0-100 km/h in 4.7 seconds and a top speed of 220 km/h. In the angrier ScatPack, power rises to 680 HP and 850 Nm of torque with a 0-100 km/h time of 3.3 seconds. Additionally, the front engine can be switched off to reduce consumption, while the rear connects to a mechanical limited slip differential.

Both versions they are equipped with a 94 kWh battery, mounted on the floor with cells of a prismatic design, capable of ensuring autonomy, in the US EPA circuit, of 510 and 418 km respectively. Charging can be done either with alternating current, at 11 kW, or with direct current up to 183 kW, charging the car in more than half an hour. Most ADAS is offered as standard, while the Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust system will ensure the sound of the V8 by using two cooling radiators to produce the engine’s roar. Instead, for those who want to travel in silence, the Stealth Mode can be used.

Dodge Charger Daytona Production it will start in mid-2024 at the Windsor plant in Ontario, while the four-door model will have to wait until next year. Also in 2025, the electric version will be joined by an endothermic version called Sixpack with 6-cylinder 3.0 liters which, depending on the deficiency, can develop 420 HP or 550 HP.
