Skoda Enyaq 85X

The Skoda Enyaq is getting a bit of a makeover ahead of a more extensive facelift to come. The new version comes with a new engine and a more user-friendly interface. Freedom and ease of use benefits but prices remain high.

There is no need to look for cosmetic modifications compared to the Skoda Enyaq sold since 2021 (2022 for the coupe version), none. 2024 models offer technical improvements. Already produced in 200,000 units, the Enyaq continues to evolve, this time receiving new motors and batteries that offer increased autonomy, fast charging and an improved infotainment system.

Quality of life on board

The ergonomics of the driving position are still appreciated.

As with the exterior, the interior of the SUV has no surprises compared to the previous version and no noticeable changes are visible without turning on the ignition. The innovation is really happening at the level of the infotainment system with its new interface with more intuitive menus. For example, it allows you to define easily accessible shortcuts at the top and bottom of the screen display for frequently used settings and applications. The navigation system is now more readable thanks to the display of a larger map area. The app also now has a battery pre-conditioning function that allows the battery to be pre-heated to maximize future charge. And, if the driver is not using the integrated navigation system, he can activate this heating himself. Be careful to anticipate this as this operation can take up to 25 minutes.

Enyaq now has a trip planner that includes payments.

The GPS is easy to program but we notice a little inconvenience during announcements: overemphasized connections like “turn Z to the right” or bad pronunciations like “take the direction of CergUy-Pontoise” or “exit Bois-Colbes” (at. the place of Bois- Colombes) itchy ears a little!

Among other new features of the program, we find the “walkaway” function available and the keyless opening system. This function automatically locks the vehicle when the driver moves 2 to 2.5 meters away from the vehicle and the key.

The Skoda Enyaq remains a pleasure to live with. If we regret some of the narrow storage spaces, such as those in the doors or even the glove box, we appreciate the various spaces on the center console or even the back of the hand. In terms of trunk volume, the SUV does quite well with 585 liters of cargo volume (1,710 l with the rear seats folded). Same values for all versions, two or four wheel drive. In comparison, the Volkswagen ID4 offers 543 l and 1,775 l and the Mercedes EQC is 500 l and 1,460 l.

The four-wheel drive system, here in the RS trim, does not burden the trunk volume.

Driving a car

By 2024, 285 hp versions called 85 and 85X (4×4 model) will appear to replace the 80 and 80X versions. As for the RS version, it now grows to 340 hp. Finally, there remains in the list a small version of the 60, which has not changed, and still continues the power of 180 hp. So the new versions receive a new, more powerful train and a matching motor on the rear axle. Therefore, for the Enyaq 85, the power increases by 60 kW (81 hp) compared to the 80 version, reaching 210 kW (285 hp). It is also the same power for the all-wheel drive version of the 85X which produces 15 kW (20 hp) more than its predecessor.

For the Enyaq RS, it now delivers 250 kW (340 hp), an increase of 30 kW (40 hp). Finally, the installation of an improved battery and more advanced fuel management brings the range to more than 560 km for the 85 version and more than 575 km for its coupe version. Thanks to these new batteries, charging performance is improved with charging power at up to 175 kW of direct current charging stations (fast charging station) for the 85X and RS versions. Charging their 82 kWh battery (77 kWh net) from 10 to 80% now takes just 28 minutes, which is 8 minutes less than before. Note that the recharging power of the Enyaq 85 remains at 135 kW maximum and 120 kW for the Enyaq 60 with its 62 kWh battery (58 essential).

We took the Enyaq 85X in hand and noted, during different recharges, the peak power, on the 300 kW highway charger, at only 167 kW (with the battery then at 14%), or 8 less than the promised power. This is even more surprising as the SUV now includes a new version of the infotainment software that allows the battery to be recharged. This activates the battery before DC charging at low ambient temperature and increases the charging speed to 22% of its capacity. So we were comfortable in this setup. It took us 39 minutes from a 10% charge to 86%, giving us a range of 383 km.

New power plants are proving to be more efficient.

In terms of autonomy, our version is advertised for 537 km. We could not cover this distance and, according to the on-board computer, we could only drive 496 km with a fully charged battery. And again, this drops during our freeway trip made at 120 km/h with the cruise control engaged. But even when we used country roads, our consumption was 20 kWh/100 km, which represents a range of 385 km. On the road, we appreciated the braking energy recovery system that can be changed using the paddles behind the steering wheel. This allows you to move around without touching the left pedal.

The Enyaq looked great and fun to drive. With efficient suspension, it offers good comfort to all passengers. However, the path of the speed bumps can be chaotic because they seem to be very dry.

Another regret, especially in the city: the rear view is a bit cramped and can hinder certain maneuvers. So you will have to be alert.

Rear visibility is average.

Security

As standard, the Skoda Enyaq is equipped with automatic emergency braking including pedestrian protection with collision avoidance assistance; lane assist (Lane Assist); front and rear parking sensors with reversing camera and multi-collision brakes. The different equipment packages offered make it easy to get adaptive and predictable cruise control (thanks to reading traffic signs), blind spot detector (up to 70 meters) with parking warning system, Travel Assist 2.5 which includes Lane Center Assist (Lane Assist Plus), Urban Collision Avoidance Assistant and Traffic Jam Assist that automatically stops the car and restarts everything to respect the distance from other users in traffic.

Skoda Enyaq 85X at a glance

If it doesn’t get any cosmetic changes, Skoda Enyaq 2024 is packed with technology. The new infotainment system, with battery heating, is easier to use and the central screen is more readable thanks to the larger useful surface area. New engines, more efficient and offering better autonomy (except for the base model Enyaq 60), put the SUV on top of the basket. Still, its price, if we exclude the base version (€46,460), which starts at €53,500 and goes up to €66,140, is not the cheapest. The new ID4 (soon on sale) is priced at €45,990 in its Pro 286 ID version and the Tesla Model Y Grande Autonomie at €51,990.
