Land Rover has shared the first images of an all-electric version of its flagship SUV, the Range Rover. It is currently being tested in extremely cold temperatures in the Arctic Circle.

It will take a keen eye to see the difference between the petrol and electric versions. Let’s say we recognize a signature from a distance. We should not expect to see the company play with the design of its utility vehicle which has always played the conventional card. This is what its buyers expect from it, whether it has a petrol engine or an electric motor. The battery-powered Range Rover will benefit from the same platform that underpins the current variants.

As for the tests currently taking place, the focus will be on the battery and electric vehicle unit, which was developed in-house. And we test the car at the diametrically opposite temperature, namely -40 degrees Celsius, plus 50 degrees Celsius, this time in the Middle East.

Loss of freedom in the winter, we are not saying anything, is an issue in Canada. And for a car that promises to be very heavy, it can be very important.

The website Carbuzz also reports that the electric Range Rover will introduce a new traction control system. The latter will provide superior grip on ice, snow and gravel. In fact, instead of relying on the anti-lock system, the SUV will manage wheel slip through individual electronic control units, which suggests a four-motor configuration.

The company has also developed a program that allows cruise control to reduce wheel slippage, without the intervention of the ABS (Anti-Blocking System). This software works in conjunction with the stability and chassis control systems, helping to improve acceleration and traction.

Without wanting to be small, considering the history of electronic problems that brand products often have, the simple fact of adding electricity is scary. We will see.

For others, we will have to see when the model will be officially presented. It may be revealed to us later at the end of the year, or somewhere in 2025.
