You have to accept that Skoda Fabia The fourth generation looks very good and fits perfectly into the current manufacturer’s version. The line is powerful, has sporty features, aggressive features and accessories, but it is still a classic hatchback that should appeal to both young and slightly older customers. However, it should be noted that, as with the new models recently, the highly modified variants look very good, although I think no one expects the Fabia to be a good development tool.

It should be mentioned that the Czech novel is based on the standard MQB-A0 platform, which is already used by, among others. Audi A1, Seat Ibiza and Arona or VW Polo. The result? The car is larger than its predecessor and according to the manufacturer – more spacious in its segment. It is 4,108 mm long, 1,780 mm wide and 1,459 mm tall. For comparison, the predecessor was 3992 mm long, 1732 mm wide and 1488 mm high, respectively. So it is longer, wider and lower. The luggage compartment in the new generation has a capacity of 380 liters (1,190 liters with the backrests folded down), so the results are about to enter the next section! The predecessor produced 330 liters (1,150 liters with the backrests folded), so the progress is clear.

It looks interesting the interior of the new Fabia. Of course, I got the top version (although not “corked”) for the test, so it was difficult to complain about the simplicity in the interior. Here we see a combination of Scala and Kamiq styling, with an attractive insert, known from the new Octavia. Beautiful, smooth lines alternate with simple elements. A large touch screen (standard, we find a standard diagonal of more than 6.5 inches) well integrated in the central area of ​​the dashboard, so that nothing stands out and does not obstruct the view. Many upholstered items and materials of very good quality as well as fit, of course, for this segment attract attention. By the way, manufacturers probably saw the trend of B-segment cars fueled by inflation, so they began to pay more attention to the quality of materials.

Among the stylistically interesting accessories, we have the round air vents on the sides, the two-spoke steering wheel or the attractive profiled handles. Back, in the central tunnel, we even find air vents for passengers. Once in the B section – unthinkable! In addition, there were only clever solutions that I like and I do not understand how other manufacturers can forget even about the holders of ordinary bags in the trunk. Depending on the version and accessories, gadgets and accessories, there will be up to 43. Among them we will find a USB-C socket in the rear glass house (for example for connecting a video recorder), a net under the trunk shelf, a. folding the backrest of the right front seat or the smartphone pockets on the backs of the front seats. There is also an umbrella hidden in the door! It was an excellent device, now a standard Fabia device.

The new Skoda Fabia available with a range of petrol engines from 80 to 150 hp. The following storage units are currently available:

  • R3 1.0 MPI EVO naturally aspirated engine (80 hp / 93 Nm), 5-speed manual gearbox;
  • R3 1.0 TSI EVO turbocharged engine (95 hp / 175 Nm), 5-speed manual gearbox;
  • R3 1.0 TSI EVO turbo engine (110 hp / 200 Nm), 6-speed manual gearbox or 7-speed DSG dual clutch gearbox;
  • turbocharged R4 1.5 TSI EVO engine (150 hp / 250 Nm), 7-speed dual clutch gearbox DSG (available at the beginning of 2021/2022).

So the range is quite wide and everyone should choose the right engine for their own needs. For the test, I received a version with a TSI 1.0 engine with 110 HP and a 7-speed DSG gearbox. It seems to be the best solution for this car, although I suspect that the 95 horsepower variant with a manual will be the most popular option – cost matters. Back to the Fabia test, with this bike the car is very exciting, powerful and accelerates enthusiastically when it turns into the right speed. And this screwing is not very clear, because not much happens below 2000 rpm, and the gearbox reluctantly (in normal conditions) reduces the gear.

The transmission almost always aims to be in the highest gear possible, and adding a hard throttle does not cause a quick response. Sometimes it is very annoying, because despite increasing the throttle, the gearbox holds the same gear and only after a while, when the engine turns a little into a revolution, there is a great speed. Of course, this effect does not occur in the S mode of the box, so when you plan to overshoot, it is worth changing the mode by pulling the jack towards you. In terms of handling, it is difficult to have any opinion. The car is drivable, stable, has a bit of a sporty element and offers a lot of fun to drive. There is no shortage of comfort in it, but if one expects a very soft suspension, this is not the address.

In terms of fuel consumption, it’s not bad, but if you’re expecting to drive downhill, you might be disappointed. Driving hard around the city leads to fuel consumption at the rate of 7-8 l / 100 km, the same result will be obtained on the road at 120-140 km / h.

We will buy a cheap Skoda Fabia for PLN 62,000 in the active version (from the beginning of May 2022). In comparison, Ford Fiesta costs at least PLN 68,000, Hyundai i20 costs at least PLN 66,500, Nissan Micra costs PLN 68,600 and Peugeot 208 – PLN 67,800. If someone wants better equipment and chooses the Style option, he will pay at least PLN 71,350. The most expensive model with a 1.5 TSI engine and 150 HP and automatic 7-speed DSG transmission with Monte Carlo equipment costs PLN 92,900. The tested variant costs more than PLN 81,000, but after choosing many options in the configurator, the price exceeded PLN 100,000. How much do selected plugins cost?
