Skoda is the main partner of the Tour de France for the 19th time in a row


Skoda is supporting the Tour de France as the main official partner for the 19th time in a row. About 250 cars of the brand will provide mobility to the race organizers and will serve as service cars.

Our long-standing commitment to cycling is one of the foundations of Skoda’s multi-sport and international sponsorship activities. At the beginning of our company’s existence, the founders – Václav Laurin and Václav Klement – started by designing and producing bicycles. This ensures perfect balance. The 109th edition of the Tour de France started on July 1 in Copenhagen. This is the most northerly starting point in the history of the race. There are 3,300 kilometers of route ahead of the competitors – this one has 21 stages, including six mountain sections leading the peloton through four countries. On July 24, the cyclists will arrive in Paris, where they will cross the finish line on the Champs Elysees.

This year, Skoda is the main official partner of this biggest cycling event in the world for the 19th time. The fleet of cars supporting during the race includes 250 cars and includes the Enyaq iV, Octavia and Octavia iV models, as well as the Superb iV. The vehicles will provide mobility for the organizers and management of the race. Some models will function as service vehicles.

Before the race Christian Prudhomme, tour director of the Tour de France, travels in an all-electric Skoda Enyaq iV.. This is the third time the electric SUV has acted as a mobile command center. In some parts, the director will also use a Skoda Superb iV with a plug-in hybrid drive.

What’s more, For the twelfth time, Skoda made a glass trophy for the winner of the world’s biggest bicycle race.. The brand also sponsors the green jersey of the leader in the points classification.

In addition, Skoda is a partner of the Tour de France Femmes, which starts on July 24 this year. During the race, the participants will go through eight stages with a distance of 1,029 km. The event route leads from Paris to La Planche des Belles Filles.

The history of the Skoda bicycle

Skoda supports the Tour de France as well as many national and international cycling races and popular sporting events, not least because of its historic ties to bicycle production. In addition to the Spanish Vuelta tour, the brand participates in an amateur competition called L’Etape. As part of it, under the sponsorship of the Tour de France, a series of races is held, enabling aspiring cyclists to pass through the stages of the world’s most famous competition.

Skoda regularly works on innovative concepts of sustainable development in cooperation with partners and puts them into practice. During the Tour de France, the brand uses tires from Continental in the Enyaqach iVs. They have joints made from recycled materials. The carcass material is made entirely of recycled PET bottles. In addition to a high level of safety, this innovation ensures excellent driving characteristics – all with a minimal impact on the environment. Skoda model tires are made to order. In the future, in close cooperation with partners, the brand intends to use tires made of ecological materials in mass production.
