here are the future “watures” of the union

Born in 1999, the Renault – Nissan Alliance welcomed Mitsubishi in 2016. Its reform will be one of the priority goals of CEO Luca de Meo, appointed as its head in 2020. The three brands will include most of their future products in Europe. We take stock.

R5 and Micra: the same battle

The latest generation of the Nissan Micra, which has the internal code K14, was launched in 2017 and then revised in 2020, before leaving the scene wisely in 2022 – sales did not meet expectations – continued with the Renault Clio 4. City the versatile sedan from the series that occupies the B segment can boast of being manufactured in France at the Flins factory (78). picture

For the Nissan Micra, the legacy is only planned for 2025 and the fifth generation which this time will owe a lot to the electric Renault 5 E-Tech arriving next year.. The future Micra will share with it, not only its technical platform called CMF-BEV developed by Ampère and its production site in Douai (59). In the language of designers, it will be a “reskin” of Renault 5, in other words a new skin put on its design.

And to make us salivate, the Renaut-Nissan alliance started the rivalry in 2022 with a short film that clearly revealed the relationship between the R5 and the Micra. The latter shows its technologically advanced eyes just like those of the Fiat 500 or the Mini. picture

Then, the second salvo, last September to properly celebrate the 30th anniversary of the design center of the Japanese brand in London, through the Nissan 20 23 concept that hit hard.. If the funky look of the future Micra is anything to go by, its strong lines that go beyond the Nismo derivative even suggest a sharper variant clearly aimed at the Alpine A290.

And in detail, this model raises the corner of the curtain on the dashboard and interior design that, according to our information, will not lack interest and show on the big screen.

The Renault was designed like the Colt

Another expected technical clone of the Renault 5: the future Mitsubishi Colt. The next version of the Japanese city car will no longer be an almost exact copy of the restyled Renault Clio 5, but like the Nissan Micra will opt for 100% electric propulsion. The future Mitsubishi Colt will also be manufactured at the Douai plant. According to the same logic, the Mitsubishi ASX SUV that is currently based on the Renault Captur will also be 100% electric and therefore should benefit from the advanced CMF-BEV technical base of the future Renault 4L.

But for Colt as for the ASX, the era of cloning will be over, an important strategy to quickly and cheaply return to the forefront in Europe, an area where the brand had been abandoned. For their next generations, the two models will each have a special look. Mitsubishi has also formalized the arrival in 2025 of a 100% electric C-segment SUV in its range which will be based on Renault’s design. You don’t need to be a fortuneteller to understand that it will come from the environment.

Juke, Leak and Qashqai, the future British electric trio

On the other side of the Channel, The Sunderland plant will be the heart of the new generations of the Juke, Leaf and Qashqai, all three of which will be electric.. The Leaf replacement, which will ditch the traditional compact sedan silhouette in favor of an SUV, will arrive in 2025. While a new electric Juke is expected in 2026.

Moving forward, Nissan and Renault plan to integrate their C-segment electric vehicles in Europe, including the Qashqai. They are also considering using a standard 800-volt architecture to speed up charge times.
