Jeep and Dodge, the first brands to benefit from the new Stellantis “Big” platform

The car group will launch its “high performance” chassis specifically for electric vehicles. The first models will be offered in North America by Dodge and Jeep.

Stellantis will launch its high-performance chassis for electric cars and the first large sedans and SUVs manufactured at the end of 2024 under its Dodge and Jeep brands, the automotive group announced this Friday, January 19.

Performance worthy of a Tesla or Porsche

With this platform, called STLA Big, Stellantis promises performance comparable to the highest electric cars, close to those of Tesla or Porsche, and accelerating from 0 to 100 km / h in 2 seconds.

Large battery packs, with a capacity of between 85 and 118 kilowatt hours (kWh), should give them up to 800 kilometers of autonomy.

The platform can also be compatible “with hybrid and internal combustion propulsion systems without compromising the essential capabilities of the vehicle”, emphasizes Stellantis in a press release.

These models will be manufactured first in the Windsor (Canada) factory, especially for the North American market where Stellantis intends to launch an attack on the young electric market.

Alfa Romeo, Chrysler and Maserati will accompany the models assembled at the factory in Cassino, Italy.

Eight cars by 2026

Eight cars from these five brands are planned in total between 2024 and 2026, in the largest manufacturer ranges, between 4.7 and 5.1 meters. They will be offered with traction, propulsion, or in a four-wheel drive version.

“Our ambition is to create a family of vehicles from a set of well-designed components that are flexible enough to cover several types of vehicles and engines, with a high level of performance. for all our current products and that each customer of our logo brands they will be able to find”, noted in a press release the general director of Stellantis, Carlos Tavares.

“The flexibility and agility of this platform is its hallmark and will be the driving force behind our success in the electrification transition in North America,” he added.

The Greater STLA is one of the four platforms that will enable Stellantis to achieve the goals of its “Dare Forward 2030” strategic plan.

The group is expected to launch the first model based on its “STLA Medium” platform in February, the new Peugeot 3008, ahead of the release of Opel, Lancia and Chrysler models.
