On October 28, 1958, John XXIII. successor of Pius XII. in. John XXIII, whose real name was Angelo Giuseppe Roncalli, is still considered a Pope of heart and reformer. Just six months after taking office, the Agnelli family gave the Pope a new company car. On March 2, 1959, a very special Fiat 2100 Speciale in a combination of black and red colors was presented to John XXIII. hand over Special features included, among other things, a large glass roof at the back.
The luxury version of the Fiat 2100
The 2100 Speciale with red leather interior was produced by Fiat for the Pope and is unique. The Fiat 2100 was already a rare model at the time. The Speciale was the most luxurious version of the 1800/2100 and was produced by Carozzerie Speciali Fiat, a limited edition special department.
The Speciale was 16 cm longer, had a different grille, two headlights and additional chrome strips on the rear chrome strips. In addition, the bumper extended to the rear wheel arches and side moldings were left. There was an extra dose of luxury in the interior, including a defroster fan for the rear window, a sort of forerunner of the common modern rear window heating.
Under the hood is a 2.1-liter six-cylinder with a manageable 82 hp. By the end of production in the fall of 1961, only 1,174 Fiat 2100 Specials had been built, making the big Fiat extremely rare, and not outside of Italy.
Popemobile for ten years
Fiat retired via auction, with proceeds going to charity, it is said. The sacred Fiat was bought by a noble Italian dynasty, but unfortunately it is not known at what price.
This is what the holy Fiat should cost
With about 52,000 kilometers on the clock, the German dealer, who currently offers Fiat on behalf of customers, is asking 130,000 euros for the old Popemobile. Finally, determining the comparative price is impossible. Even determining the market value for the Fiat 2100 in Germany is almost impossible.
