Wairarapa shearer Buick (45) became one of the most remarkable newcomers in the New Zealand sport by winning the New Zealand Shears open final at Te Kuiti, less than three years after a farm accident left him fighting for life. and wondered if he could. walk again

The accident occurred when he was suffocated in a collapsed trench during drainage excavation on his farm near Pongaroa in 2021, buried up to his chin in packed dirt.

Suffering severe hip and other injuries, he was flown in a critical condition to Palmerston North by rescue helicopter and spent months recovering in hospital.
