Aston Martin to offer petrol models for as long as allowed – Industry and Analysis

Aston Martin will keep petrol engine cars on sale until 2030 and will delay the launch of its first electric model originally planned for 2025 to 2027. This was said by Lawrence Stroll, executive president of Aston Martin, stressing that “there will always be demand” for cars with combustion engines and that, as a result, plug-in hybrids “will be more of a bridge technology and will continue to be sold until the mid-1930s and beyond. As reported by the British newspaper Autocar, Stroll revealed that Aston customers , when asked about this, said they want an experience based on “sound and smell” and that they prefer Ice technology for their cars.

Taking into account these indications from the market, Aston Martin plans to launch four electric models – GT, SUV, crossover and mid-engine supercar – using a special design of electric cars and which will enter the market starting from. 2027 with the unveiling of the first Bev model in late 2026. “We have designed and developed a platform to carry four different cars,” Stroll told Autocar.

“We have all the products that have been professionally designed and physically designed with a planned launch from the end of 2025. But it seems that it is more of a public choice space driven by policy that is interested in electric vehicles rather than the real needs of consumers, especially. in the range of the price of an Aston Martin.” Stroll explained that demand for electric cars is very weak in the luxury segment, as models such as Aston Martins are usually second, third or fourth for their customers and are used for pleasure and emotional experiences. “Aston will arrive in electric cars – he reiterated – but certainly not at the previously announced date”.

The Gaydon company has decided to invest very heavily in Phevs which are “technology that will work for a long time and which – noted the executive president of Aston Martin – we will have a wide offer”. Phevs will be based on V8s, “as our customers – said Stroll – do not like V6”. V8 engines will continue from Mercedes-AMG in the plug-in era, and Stroll also said that “Aston will add hybrid technology to its V12 as well.”
