Karma original singer Brit Smith says JoJo Siwa ‘has done nothing wrong’ after re-recording 2012 hit.

JoJo Siwa’s predecessor comes to his defense amid allegations of plagiarism about his new song.

After the Dance Moms alum, 20, dropped the video and single for ‘Karma’ earlier this month, the original singer of the song Brit Smith denied that Siwa stole the song.

‘I’m here to set the record straight once and for all. JoJo didn’t steal my song,’ Smith began on TikTok video sunday

“There’s been a lot of talk and a lot of feedback and it’s going on, so I thought let me come here and hopefully put an end to this,” he added.

Smith he recorded a song and a video for the song ‘Karma’s a Bitch’ with Rock Mafia and Timbaland in 2012 as her first single, after Miley Cyrus passed on the song for her third album, Can’t Be Tamed in 2010.

Label executives encouraged him to go with ‘Provocative’ as his debut in 2013, but the song didn’t do well and Smith left the industry.

“He had every right to record his version, and I hate to see that anyone would think that I’m involved in any kind of bullying or anything like that,” Smith of Siwa said.

“I was bullied in high school and I know what it feels like, and I would never want to be considered a part of that,” he added. ‘I just want to make it clear that JoJo has done nothing wrong to me.’

Smith’s version has resurfaced on social media, and viral video and a song ranked 8th on the US iTunes pop charts, surpassing Siwa’s version at number 89.

“It’s been a whirlwind since last week,” he said of the response.

‘The support you’ve shown me and you saying “we want to make his dreams come true 12 years later” has been amazing – and even gave me a little encouragement to think about getting back into this possible thing.’

Smith plans to finally release his original EP on May 17 as he still has the songs ‘on my computer.’

Siwa has responded to the allegations, explaining TMZ: ‘I didn’t steal anything. There’s no such thing as stealing – I don’t know who Brit Smith is either.’

When the interviewer explained Smith’s viral success, Siwa said ‘it’s obviously not that viral ’cause I haven’t even seen it.’

‘Honestly, it’s an old song,’ he explained. ‘I was beaten. I loved it, I really wanted it, so I grabbed it.’

Siwa added, ‘That’s very common… What happens is that people write songs and then they don’t do anything with them. And then, a few years later, it makes more sense to another artist.

“I just knew that the song was a special song, I knew it was a work of art, and I knew that it fit perfectly with the vision I wanted to create for the world,” said Siwa.
