Steelers schedule Top 30 visit with Ohio State OT Dawand Jones

The Pittsburgh Steelers, in an effort to bolster their offensive line, recently welcomed Ohio State offensive tackle Dawand Jones to their top-30 pre-draft visit.

The 21-year-old Jones, a four-year letterman for the Buckeyes, is projected to be a first-round selection in the upcoming NFL Draft, and is seen as an ideal fit for the Steelers’ offensive line.

The 6-foot-6, 320 pound Jones has the physical traits to be an impactful lineman at the professional level. He is an adept run-blocker, combining a powerful lower body with a strong base to move defenders off the line of scrimmage. He also demonstrates good hand placement and technique to fend off edge rushers as a pass protector.

Jones has also displayed excellent athleticism and agility, which could make him a valuable asset in the Steelers’ zone-blocking system. His quick feet and lateral mobility should enable him to hold up well in space, and his agility could help him make blocks at the second level.

The Steelers must decide whether Jones’ talents are worthy of investing a first-round pick in him. He could be an invaluable asset to the team’s offensive line, and his presence should improve their ability to protect quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, as well as open up holes for the running game.

If the Steelers are able to bring in Jones, they will have added a skilled offensive tackle to a lineup that has been plagued by injuries and inconsistency in recent years. His addition would be a major step forward for the team, and could help them return to the top of the AFC North.
