Stellantis extends production of its Fiat Panda in Italy until 2030

Carlos Antunes Tavares was born on August 14, 1958 in Lisbon. He is a Portuguese business leader. He is known for being the head of the PSA Group, after spending years in the management of Renault.
Passionate about racing and an amateur driver, he graduated from the Ecole Centrale de Paris.

In 1981, he joined Renault and held various positions of responsibility. Previously, a test engineer at Aubevoye, he led the design of the Mégane 2 (X84 software) and the industrial development of its derivatives. He climbed the ladder little by little and in 2004, he joined the Nissan group as the boss of the American region where he sat on the board of directors.
In 2011, he was appointed Deputy General Manager of Operations at Renault. So he becomes the “number 2” of the group after the president, Carlos Ghosn. In 2013, however, due to the lack of prospects to be number 1 in Renault-Nissan, he preferred to announce his departure. His goal is to lead a large group of cars and he thinks the president cannot be defeated.
On January 1, 2014, he joined the Management Board of Groupe PSA where he has served as Chairman since March 31. He is mainly responsible for the economic and strategic revival of the group.

“Back to racing”: this is the name that Carlos Tavares gives to his PSA recovery plan. Its purpose is to restore sustainable and organic growth, without foreign aid. Thanks to his plan, the company changed its internal organization and, in less than two years, PSA got out of debt and returned as much as 5%.
In 2016, the group was reorganized in the prosperous European market. Carlos Tavares’ goal, however, remains to define the group’s strategy, especially in the search for new markets. In March 2017, PSA bought the German manufacturer Opel from the American group General Motors.

In 2018, the PSA boss announced a historic 47% profit for the group he leads. He creates a new plan which he calls “Push to pass”: this new plan follows from “Back to the race”. Carlos Tavares wants to unlock the company’s potential by launching 28 new models in Europe over the next six years. Peugeot is doing well, but the focus today is to relaunch Citroën and successfully launch the new DS brand into the world of luxury cars.
