If the Alfa Romeo Milano is the center of the news, An important announcement about the electric 500 almost went unnoticed. In the communication event from Stellantis on the investment of 240 million for the Mirafiori Automotive Park 2030, the news focuses on the electric Fiat 500: will change professionally to increase sales. Here’s why and how.

While sales of the electric Fiat 500 have stopped or even decreased depending on the country, due to the lack of adequate purchase subsidies, the Mirafiori factory continues to experience periods of unemployment.

This is why the news continued to flow the future of 500 electric, especially with the arrival of a possible hybrid version of the fuel. If this concept cannot be ruled out, Stellantis still comes to save the electric version and an additional investment of 100 million euros for a small city car.

Purpose of this investment: develop it professionally to make it more interesting. So Stellantis has understood that it is the price that slows down sales. As a result of this investment, the electric Fiat 500 will receive brand new engine and battery. Apart from the price, in the words of Carlos Tavares, freedom will increase. This is, in our opinion, good news, because as a reminder, this 500 is the only Stellantis car with its own platform, its own engine and its own battery.

This big announcement opens the door to several questions at once. First of all, how about the new 500 on the Small STLA scheduled for 2027 if in 2024 the group will invest 100 million euros to improve its engine and battery? Would it make sense to launch it this early?

ensuite, what motor and what battery ? Will these be the 100 kw (136 hp) or even the 115 kw (156 hp) engines already present in other models of the group? For the battery, it will be the first creation of a “Battery Technology Center” at the Mirafiori Motor Park since a new “manufactured” one will be needed for the unique 500 platform?

Then, watch how much? If the goal is to make the electric 500 more attractive, it will need to be at least €10,000 cheaper than the electric 600, which costs €35,900. As a reminder, the current electric 500 costs €30,400.

And finally, When? Between the investment announcement, development, specifications, when will we see this new 500 on the market?

At least this is the news we’ve all been waiting for, Stellantis is responding to support the production of this car in Italy, and that’s a good thing.
