The first Netflix series Guy Ritchie is a famous singer and star of White Lotus

Guy Ritchie is back again with Gentlemen. The best gangster movie of 2019 has been reborn as a Netflix series, with a trailer and a cast that will have you hooked. Theo James, known from White Lotus, plays the lead role of Eddie Halstead. Luckily, Vinnie Jones is there too!

The nobles get the second chance

Shame, because as far as we’re concerned, the crime film is a hidden gem. Matthew McConaughey’s Mickey Pearson, a gangster with a drug empire, is a very interesting character. Ritchie at his best.

Fortunately it finds Gentlemen soon the second place, on Netflix. We are not talking about the 2019 movie, but a completely new twist. In March, Netflix will be released Gentlemen released, an eight-part series that takes place in the same world as the movie, but with completely new characters. A kind of semi-reboot, so to speak. The fact that Origins has the same name as the movie makes it even more confusing, but whatever.

Theo James (White Lotus) stars Eddie Horniman, a young man who unexpectedly inherits his father’s large fortune, only to discover that it is part of a secret cannabis empire. So the drug trade. Soon many unsavory figures from the British underworld show up at the door looking to get in on the action.

Determined to free his family from their dangerous clutches, Eddie tries to beat the gangsters at their own game. But when he is drawn into the world of crime, he begins to find his taste in secret. Maybe a job in the drug trade isn’t so bad.

Giancarlo Esposito and Guy Ritchie

In addition to The White Lotus star Theo James, the cast of the Netflix Original includes Ray Winstone, Kaya Scodelario, Daniel Ings, Joely Richardson, Vinnie Jones and none other than Giancarlo Esposito. Esposito clearly knows Break badly good advice and a good story of crime and drugs as a common thread.

Although Hugh Grant, Charlie Hunnam and the rest of the film’s cast are nowhere to be seen in this second installment, luckily Guy Ritchie himself returns. He is on board as a presenter, writer and producer and is also directing the first two episodes.

It remains to be seen if the series will be able to live up to the film’s grand atmosphere, but the first trailer certainly promises well. We can pass judgment sometime in March, because then the series will come to Netflix in its entirety. Eight episodes, beautifully done.
