Strike effect: Denied at GMC & Mayo, patients line up at AIIMS | Nagpur News

As the ongoing pandemic continues to take its toll on the economy, many health-care providers are feeling the burn. Recently, patients have found themselves in an increasingly precarious situation as GMC and Mayo have denied them entry. In response, a line of individuals has formed outside the gates of AIIMS Nagpur in the hopes of obtaining much-needed medical attention.

The situation has become increasingly dire as the number of individuals rejected from GMC and Mayo has risen. One patient, who wished to remain anonymous, recounted the experience of being denied at both medical facilities. “It was a harrowing experience,” they said. “I had been ill for weeks and had nowhere else to turn. I thought I would be able to find help at either GMC or Mayo, but both rejected me.”

The situation at AIIMS has become increasingly precarious. With an influx of patients, the medical facility has been overwhelmed. In an effort to accommodate the masses, the hospital has implemented a strict system of triage. Those with the most serious health concerns are seen first, while those with less pressing issues can wait for hours, or even days.

The effects of the pandemic are becoming increasingly clear as individuals are denied access to GMC and Mayo. With few other options, many are turning to AIIMS, where a long line of individuals awaits medical attention. The prolonged wait times have caused further suffering, underscoring the need for a long-term solution to this complex health-care problem.
