Fans of electric cars around the world were around at the end of last year and until 2024, when the demand for EVs seemed to decrease. Recently, news of declining sales for industry leader Tesla has dominated the headlines while other automakers seem to be doing the same. Apparently, Ford has seen an angle, because it has been planning to appeal to the Mach-E by appealing to drivers who enjoy driving, rather than watching their car drive itself.

The Rise and Fall of the Mustang Mach-E Electric Car…

When Ford unveiled the Mustang Mach-E in 2019 to much fanfare, the electric car would be one of three attempts at zero-emission mobility based on Ford’s flagship gas-powered vehicles. The other two were electric versions of the F-150 pickup truck and the Transit van.

The E-Transit vehicle has been doing well, including a thumbs up from the US Postal Service for its e-mail delivery initiatives. The electric F-150 and Mustang Mach-E have had their ups and downs. Earlier this year, reports emerged that Ford was reduce production of Electricity. In February, Bloomberg he also noted that sales of the Mach-E electric vehicle declined earlier this year after important tax credit expired, and the price cut was aimed at cutting edge. The Detroit Free Press also reported that Ford reduce the price on the 2023 Mach-E in an effort to continue price cuts at Tesla.

However, on February 20, Click Free author Phoebe Wall Howard focused on Mach-E speed among drivers. “The Mach-E is second only to Tesla in US electric vehicle sales,” noted author Phoebe Wall Howard. Quoting Ford’s US sales analyst Erich Merkel, Howard also noted that “Ford has sold 108,667 Mach-E SUVs in the US from its launch in December 2020 through January 2024.

“In the last three months of 2023, the Mach-E saw its best quarter of sales since its introduction with nearly 12,000 vehicles, according to Cox Automotive,” Howard added.

… And Rise Again

A lot has happened in the few weeks since February regarding Tesla’s lineup sales. In the latest development on Ford’s part, the company’s press office sent out an email SafiTechnica to make sure we knew about the opening of online orders for the 2024 Mach-E.

“Today, we’re announcing that the 2024 Mustang Mach-E lineup is now available to order online offering more performance, more range and faster charge times than any previous Mustang Mach-E model,” Ford wrote.

The company also provided some performance details, noting that “the 2024 Mustang Mach-E hits 0-60 in 3.3 seconds (faster than the Tesla Model Y and Porsche Macan 4 Electric) and the quarter mile in 11.8 seconds at 114 mph, while and the new Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Upgrade.

“Performance enhancements come standard on the new Mustang Mach-E Rally and are an available update for the 2024 Mustang Mach-E GT,” they explained. They also provided a link to a YouTube video, which you can view here.

An Electric Car for Drivers, Not Spectators

So, this is where it gets interesting. One of the key elements that contribute to the mystery of the Tesla brand is the promise of complete freedom electric car. To reach here; so far, commitment to self-governance failed to be fully implemented, but many fans of the company have enjoyed testing its capabilities under various conditions, and various degrees of success.

Ford has gone against the grain with the Mustang Mach-E, to emphasize a hands-on driving experience. A hint of things to come appeared last September, when the company finally took the wraps off the long-awaited Mustang Mach-E Rally electric car.

“We have always explored new areas of performance, with a combination of rally suspension, two motor electric trainand rugged styling make the Mustang Mach-E Rally a different kind of performance vehicle that will excite customers pursuing their next adventure,” explained Donna Dickson, Chief Engineer of the Mustang Mach-E line, in a press release.

“Mustang Mach-E Rally 1 is an electric vehicle technology that applies to the unusable white space, expanding the Mustang Mach-E family,” added Ford. Emphasizing handling throughout, Ford introduced the first-ever RallySport Drive Mode 6 from Ford, which is designed for off-road driving and modifies the electronic control systems to allow greater slide, control line response for better handling , and more severe damage to better handle in loose corners.”

What Do Electric Car Drivers Really Want?

As for the rest of the Mach-E lineup, Dickson tied the pieces together in a press release on April 9, timed for the opening of 2024 Mach-E orders.

“As the Chief Engineer of Mustang Mach-E® SUVA big part of my role is to understand what our customers want and need,” he wrote.

“My team and I spend a lot of time thinking about what will excite our customers so that we can make EVs that they will truly love,” said Dickson. he added. “For 2024, we’re taking everything our customers love about the Mustang Mach-E and incorporating those ideas into the car.”

In addition to the long range and fast charging speed, Dickson stressed that the Performance Upgrade for 2024 aims to “find driving pleasure and mountains of electric torque.”

“The new rear eMotor, developed in-house by Ford engineers, which starts on all trim levels of the new Mustang Mach-E, is lighter and helps deliver improved torque in the 2024 lineup,” he added.

Noticeably absent from the public relations push is any mention of a self-driving car, though the Mach-E line does indeed sport Ford’s new hands-free “BlueCruise” feature. Consumer Reports reviewed BlueCruise last spring and described it as an advanced cruise control or “active driving assistance” system to control speed and keep the center of the lane. The system is only enabled for use on designated highways with limited access, where problems such as traffic signals and pedestrians are not present.

The absence of the language of “self-driving” in Ford’s advertising materials indicates the knowledge of Consumer Reports senior director of automotive testing Jake Fisher, who noted the difference between self-driving and assisted driving.

“Systems like BlueCruise are important developments that can help make driving easier and less stressful,” he explained. “But they don’t make a self-driving car at all. Instead, they create a new way to drive by collaborating with the computer in your car.

“When car manufacturers do it right, it can make driving safer and easier. When they do it wrong, it can be dangerous,” he warned.

For the record, Consumer Reports gave BlueCruise its top spot for driving assistance, followed by Cadillac’s Super Cruise and Mercedes-Benz’s Driver Assist.
