(Motorsport-Total.com/Motor1) – Subaru has been selling the race-ready BRZ in Japan since 2013. The original BRZ RA was offered with steel wheels and a roll cage. The basis of the BRZ Cup Car, based on the second generation model, started in 2022. The sports coupe aimed at enthusiasts is now receiving several updates for 2024. But it remains affordable.

You still get 16-inch alloy wheels and 205/55 R16 tires because Subaru knows you’ll want to replace them anyway. For 2024, the shape of the six-point roll cage has been changed. More importantly, Subaru is now equipping the BRZ Cup Car Basic with EyeSight safety equipment as standard, which is not expected for a pure race car. The manufacturer has been selling the road-ready BRZ with manual transmission and EyeSight since last year.

This hardcore version also removes the side and window airbags, while most of the sound insulation is also removed. The driver’s seat is equipped with an eye for connecting six points and the floor mats are different after installing the roll cage. Subaru also provides the car with an additional engine oil cooler and installs fins to direct air to the rear differential.

At 1,290 kg, the base BRZ Cup Car is no lighter than the street-legal model. It still has a passenger seat and even air conditioning, although the roll cage blocks the side vents. A Japanese translation of the data sheet indicates that side airbags are still present, but will not deploy in the event of a collision. They were disabled after closing the roll cage.

Subaru warns that the Cup Car Basic may be “somewhat inferior in terms of handling, comfort, maneuverability, entry and exit and stability” compared to the standard BRZ. Instead of a spare tire, a racing car is supplied with a tire repair kit.

It costs the equivalent of 22,400 euros, which seems like a bargain when you consider that the cheapest BRZ in Germany is available from 38,990 euros. By the way: The base of the Subaru BRZ Cup Car has a matching version of the Toyota GR86, which competes against each other in the Japanese GR86/BRZ Cup.
