Nearly six months after Hurricane Ian bore down on Fort Myers Beach, a curious sight emerged from the depths of a public swimming pool – an SUV.
In a perplexing twist of fate, the vehicle had been swept into the pool during the Category 4 hurricane’s turbulent winds and storm surge.
It was late February when lifeguards at the pool realized something was amiss, as they noticed a large object protruding from the pool’s waters.
“We were shocked,” said Joe Smith, a lifeguard on duty that day. “It was definitely an unexpected surprise.”
The mysterious vehicle was then identified as a red Ford SUV, which had been parked in the pool’s vicinity prior to the hurricane.
In the aftermath of the storm, the SUV was submerged and remained buried until it was eventually discovered by the lifeguards.
The vehicle was successfully removed from the pool and towed away, with the pool returning to its pre-hurricane state.
Although its presence in the pool was an abnormal occurrence, the SUV’s removal was a reminder of the destruction that Ian brought to the area.
“It was a strange situation, but it’s a reminder of the power of the storm,” Smith said.
