Cadillac man sentenced after judge chooses not to honor pre-sentence agreement | Information

CADILLAC — A Cadillac man recently accepted a plea in a sex-related crime case against him in Wexford District Court, but when he was sentenced the agreement was not followed.

Michael Dale Koschmider was sentenced to one day in jail with credit for one day served for no contest to a fourth-degree sex crime, force or coercion, in connection with an incident on or between October 6 and October 9. in a Cadillac. He was also ordered to pay a fine of $1,798 and given five years of probation.

Last month, a plea deal that would have put Koschmider on a deferred sentence was agreed to by the prosecution and defense. If successful during the delay, Koschmider could withdraw his plea and accept a no contest plea to the assault or battery charge. During the delay, he would also not be subject to registration under the Sex Offender Registration Act.

Court records show that during a recent sentencing, Circuit Court Judge Jason Elmore disregarded the plea agreement and told Koschmider he could withdraw his plea. Koschmider, however, chose to proceed with the above sentence.

CITY OF MICHIGAMME, Mich. (AP) — A Michigan man and his dog were rescued from the icy waters of an inland lake in the state’s Upper Peninsula, authorities said. The first three participants required treatment.

Thad Cooper, 56, of Michigamme Township, was looking for his dog Friday afternoon when he saw its head sticking out of the ice more than 100 yards from the shore of Lake Michigamme, the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office said.

Cooper went into the lake to try to rescue the dog but fell into it and was unable to get out, the office said.

The sheriff’s dive team reached Cooper with a surfboard and pulled him to shore. The dog was also rescued, the office said. Cooper and his dog spent about an hour and a half in the water.

Two first responders were taken to a hospital and treated for hypothermia, and another worker sought amputation treatment after falling through the ice, the office said.
