Former Red Bull Racing driver Robert Doornbos is excited to see what happens at Ferrari in 2025. The Dutchman paints a grim picture of Monegasque Charles Leclerc.

Robert Doornbos competed in Formula 1 from 2004 to 2006, first as the third driver for Jordan, then as a pilot for Minardi, the 2006 season as the third man for Red Bull Racing and most recently three times as a pilot, finishing 12th .the best results in China.

The 42-year-old Dutchman has now stayed connected to the sport and works as a GP expert. In this role, he spoke to his colleagues at Ziggo Sports about Ferrari 2025 and the upcoming Italian battle between established Charles Leclerc and Ferrari newcomer Lewis Hamilton.

Robert Doornbos from Rotterdam claims: “Charles Leclerc is too good to be world champion of Formula 1. Leclerc cannot do what Hamilton or Verstappen show.

“Let’s assume that Ferrari builds the best car for the next GP season. Then he will be eaten by Hamilton.”

“Leclerc has a certain severity, this severity when it comes to mistakes or dealing with his engineers.”

Formula 1 world champion Nico Rosberg sounded the same at Monza 2023, where it was almost a fierce battle between Leclerc and Carlos Sainz. In the end, Sainz stayed ahead and was able to celebrate third place, Leclerc had to be satisfied with fourth place, but like his teammate, he was full of racing qualities, which reminded him of the old days of karting, as he said after the Fall of the checkered flag he explained. The Monegasque’s statements came as a surprise to Nico Rosberg.

Nico: “I watched Charles as he raced through this fight and I wondered if he was saying the opposite of what he meant, but he seemed very sincere.”

“I think he’s very good. He had already lost that strategy the day before when he allowed the team to give Carlos a double slip instead of splitting the two drivers. I don’t know – maybe Leclerc is very good, but in my opinion that’s too much.”
