Tesla Model Y for Europe: All information and data

Tesla has been offering the Model Y (the video is about the US version) in Germany for over two and a half years. So, the first big update is coming soon. The basic modification of the electric SUV is carried out by Tesla under the internal code “Juniper Project” (translated into German: Juniper Project). According to media reports, the first facelifted Model Y will hit the market in China in the summer. The Tesla Gigafactory in Grünheide is also expected to switch production soon. However, Tesla has not yet revealed exactly when the first updated Model Y models will be manufactured in Brandenburg.

New version “Maximum rear wheel drive”

Until then, the electric SUV will fight for buyers in a conventional way for a few more months. To keep the Model Y attractive, Tesla is not only constantly increasing the price, but now it is also introducing a new variant of the model. The version with the unusual nickname “Maximum rear-wheel drive” has only one motor on the rear axle, but it has a large battery, and is intended to reach a WLTP range of 600 km with this package. This means it goes further than its twin-engine, 378 kW (514 hp) “Maximum all-wheel drive”, which can reach a maximum range of 533 km. maximum charging for long-range variants is 250 kW.

With only one electric machine drawing power from the battery, power consumption drops to 14.9 kWh/100 km. A conventional heat pump and low-friction tires also contribute to good energy efficiency. Given the single motor drive layout, no one has to worry about performance changes. Tesla Model Y manages the rear-wheel drive from zero to one hundred in 5.9 seconds; the brother who drives four wheels completes the exercise ten seconds faster. There is a tie for top speed (217 km/h).

A basic and functional version of the Model Y

In addition to the two long-range variants, Tesla offers the Model Y in two other versions in this country. In the entry-level model, the manufacturer places a 220 kW (299 hp) motor on the rear axle and combines it with a small battery. This results in a WLTP range of 455 km, a zero to 100 time of 6.9 seconds and a top speed of 217 km/h. At the other end of the performance spectrum is a performance variant with 393 kW (534 hp), which manages a standard sprint in 3.7 seconds and reaches a maximum speed of 250 km / h. The WLTP range of the top model, which can be recognized from the outside with 21-inch wheels in turbine design (some Model Ys have 19 or 20-inch wheels), red brake calipers and a carbon rear spoiler, is 514. km .

internal space

Aside from the lightweight steel pedals of the performance version, all Model Y variants are identical inside. At first glance there are no visible buttons, apart from the hazard lights switch. Like the Model 3, it is mounted on the headliner. A 15-inch screen serves as the interface for the car’s controls. Like Model 3, Model Y does not require a key. Tesla automatically connects to the driver’s smartphone. This means you can easily unlock and lock the car using your mobile phone. Alternatively, key cards the size of a credit card can be used to open, close and start.

Dimensions and weight

The Tesla Model Y, which always has five seats, is 4.75 meters long, 1.98 meters (exterior mirrors folded) or 2.13 meters (exterior mirrors folded) in width and a good height of 1.62 meters. Depending on the model variant, the weight varies between 1,909 (base model) and 1,979 kg (top AWD). A total of 2,158 liters of storage space is available for luggage, although compact items can also be stored under the front hood in the “frunk”.

Price and special features

After some recent ups and downs, Model Y prices now appear to have reached a stable level. The two rear-wheel drive versions cost at least 44,990 euros (base model) or 48,990 euros (high-end rear-wheel drive). The long-range all-wheel-drive model starts at 54,990 euros, while the performance version is available from 59,990 euros. As is typical with Tesla, the options for investing extra money in the Model Y are limited. The Americans charge extra for any color other than white, 20-inch wheels on all non-performance variants (2,200 euros), trailer hitch (1,350 euros) and bright interior (1,200 euros).

Features of autonomous driving

There are also self-driving functions with the extended automation of 3,800 euros, which, in addition to air traffic control, also includes emergency positioning, lane keeping (with steering intervention) and lane change assistants. In the future, automatic parking and calling will be integrated. Anyone who reserves the bigger package, which Tesla brags about “full autonomous driving,” and wants the Model Y to drive itself in most situations will pay an extra 7,500 euros.

Note: In the photo show we will tell you how the Tesla Model Y Dualmotor Performance performs in the endurance test.

With the “Maximum rear-wheel drive” version, Tesla is introducing a long-range variant of the Model Y. This means that the portfolio of mid-range electric SUVs has increased to a quartet. The question remains whether the model range will be preserved once the facelift is introduced to the German market. This is already coming on the horizon.
