In the conference call after Annual report for the third quarter of 2022 Musk said the next platform will be smaller than the Model 3/Y platform and will cost about half as much. Musk commented on the topic during a Q&A session. Listen to the audio broadcast in the video below; the question comes around 37:00 min.
He answered a question from a private investor. He cited a 50 percent reduction in production costs when moving from Tesla’s first platform (for the Model S and X) to the second platform (Model 3 and Model Y). Then he asked when the third platform will start and what cost reduction Elon Musk expected.
Musk: Baby Tesla “will exceed the production of all other cars combined””
Elon Musk responded that he could not yet give an exact launch date, but that the project would be “the main focus of the new car development team.” If we understood it correctly, Baby Tesla is the next project after Cybertruck and Semi. The platform will cost half as much as the Model 3 and Y.
“The next-generation car will cost about half as much as the 3/Y platform and will be much smaller. It will, I think, exceed the production of all other cars combined.” (Elon Musk)
The head of the company then added that the new Tesla model would beat all other cars combined in terms of production numbers.
