GM: all-new pickup trucks with a split roof

It’s nothing new to see new vehicles hit the market with problems, but the recent case of General Motors pickup trucks is still worrying.

In the United States, the manufacturer was forced to stop sales and recall 3,000 copies of its copies. Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra of the year 2024 (models 1500, 2500HD and 3500HD) due to strange cracks in the roof. Some have already been sold, while others are still in the yard of traders.

The number of affected vehicles in Canada, if any, is unknown at this time.

According to the document published by National Highway Traffic Safety Administrationwhich deals with transportation safety in the United States, the cracks in question have generally been seen on the passenger side, near the doors and seals that prevent water from entering the cabin.

This is a manufacturing defect given that the vehicles have not left the factory and have not yet been subjected to severe weather or heavy use for a long period of time – a defect that escaped inspection tests at the factory.

In a statement posted to the website Engine1, GM confirmed that pickup trucks were assembled with a cracked roof, but did not specify where. Note that the Silverado is manufactured, among other places, in Oshawa, Ontario.

But wait, that’s not the most amazing part. As a solution, GM recommends drilling holes at each end of the cracks to prevent them from spreading, then plugging them with welds and that’s it. Seriously? It laughs at the customers who pay exorbitant prices to get these brand new cars.

The Canadian base price of the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is $47,930, all expenses included, but it can exceed $90,000 in the high-end and high-performance versions.
