Tesla, acceleration problems. Remember for 4 thousand Cybertrucks

More trouble for Tesla. The world leader in battery electric vehicles has launched a recall operation for 3,878 Cybertruck, controversial pick-ups from the Austin manufacturer, which so far has not turned out to be a good deal, especially for Tesla. A few months ago, CEO Elon Musk said, during the call, “we dug our own grave with the Cybertruck”, blaming the drop in margins, in part, on the expensive production of this large vehicle, which weighs 3 tons. In months of the latest, many customers (Cybertruck was awaited by fans and orders had exceeded one million) complained about the presence of rust spots on the bodywork. Tesla began delivery of its electric Cybertruck in late 2023, after more than two years of delays due to production and battery supply problems, and four full years after delivery. The news of the suspension of production came during the week with a request to customers to arm themselves with a lot of patience.

This time the update will not be enough

This time, unlike the others, the problem will not be fixed by an over-the-air software update. In fact, the accelerator pedal needs to be repaired as it can come loose and get stuck on the inside line, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the US road safety authority, said on Friday. A stuck accelerator pedal can cause the vehicle to accelerate unintentionally, increasing the risk of a crash, NHTSA said in a statement.

Tesla will replace or repair the accelerator pedal assembly free of charge, and owners will be notified through letters sent in June, NHTSA said.

First he remembers in the United States and China

Electric car manufacturers made three recalls in the first quarter of 2024 affecting around 2.4 million vehicles, according to a report from management company BizzyCar. However, as mentioned, most issues related to Tesla recalls are usually resolved through software updates.

In February, Tesla recalled 2.2 million vehicles in the United States because of an incorrect font size on its warning lights. The proper operation and use by drivers of the vehicle’s driver assistance system, Full Self Driving, remains under the watchful eye of the authorities, despite recent activity that avoided prosecution. In China, the upgrade to 1.6 million Teslas was necessary in January for safety reasons due to Autopilot.
