Tesla has announced that it will cover the difference between the 2022 environmental bonus and the 2023 environmental bonus for Model 3 and Model Y orders in Germany this year if the delivery is not until 2023. However, some conditions apply.
The first requirement is that the Model 3 or Model Y must be ordered by December 31, 2022 through an online configurator or a Tesla store. If the ordered vehicle is not delivered until 2023, the new regulation will come into effect. “This compensation covers the difference in the minimum environmental bonus next year compared to the highest levels, which are made up of the manufacturer’s part and the federal part including the innovation bonus,” Tesla writes in its developer. Earlier the car maker had sent letters to customers and interested parties.
But there are other compensation terms. Tesla says that “for customers who qualify as businesses”, other terms may apply. It is not clear if Tesla is referring to its corporate customers or the upcoming changes to the environmental bonus (as of September 1, 2023, companies will no longer be eligible to apply).
However, some conditions also apply to individual customers. Refunds are only given if no changes of any kind are made to the vehicle order contract prior to delivery. “To receive this reimbursement, you must pay the price of the vehicle immediately upon invoice or submit a completed financing agreement and agree to the shipment once your vehicle is available for delivery,” Tesla said. “Otherwise, Tesla reserves the right to issue an invoice without compensation, make a price adjustment or cancel the order. Any delay in delivery by the customer will result in a full loss of compensation.”
Some color wheel combinations for the Model Y Long Range and Model Y Performance have an expected delivery date from December 2022 to February 2023 at Tesla’s dealership when new orders are placed. For some variants, such as those with the new “Midnight Cherry Red” finish, the delivery window will be extended from May to July 2023. The base model with rear-wheel drive will arrive in February at the earliest for new orders – for since this variant comes from Giga Shanghai, the new colors are not available here (in addition to metallic red, “Midnight Silver Metallic” has. been replaced by “Quicksilver”) – these are offered only to cars from Grünheide.
In September The Tesla Model Y was the best-selling car in Germany among all models with 9,846 new registrations – ahead of the VW Golf and VW Tiguan. In BEV figures, second place also went to Tesla: 3,878 new Model 3s were on the road. Data from October for individual models are not yet available.
