Caterham Seven 360 2023 Review | Goodwood test

In my eyes, a car this fun to drive needs more than three pedals, a steering wheel, and a dash to tell you how fast you’re going. With that in mind, the interior of the Caterham is somewhat excellent.

It’s inside the car where most of the differences between the S and R packs show themselves as well. However, you don’t need to get too involved with which package offers what, because in most cases everything you can get on one car is available as an option on another. The main difference is in the standard dimensions.

In S guise, the 360 comes with very comfortable leather seats, while the R comes with competitively tight seats. I actually found the increased support from the lightweight racing seats to be a better option, because while the leather alternatives are soft on the old derrière, you may be prone to a little more roll when cornering.

The leather in the S extends to the tunnel and transmission dashboard, while the R is covered in carbon fiber with Caterham’s ‘carbon skin’. You’ll also get a four-point hitch, standard in the R, optional in the S, which is nice but also a bit inconvenient if your only intention with this car is to enjoy a blast at the bar on the weekend.

Among the ‘features’ I found, especially in the hard R model, the rev counter would always get stuck, maybe when you hit a hard bump, so there were times when the sound of the engine was the only indication of when to change gears, talk about drowning.
