End of the road Infiniti Q60

We are not surprised to learn about the death ofInfiniti Q60. After all, not only sedans beat from SUVs, but the market for luxury sports coupes is almost dead, especially from Japanese manufacturers. Infiniti, a luxury division that has already seen more glorious times, is therefore cleaning up its lineup. The year 2022 will therefore be the last year for sale of the Q60.

Infiniti confirmed this news to US media Car & Driver noting that he wanted to focus on popular models, SUVs, in particular. However, it is important to emphasize that, like the rest of the automotive industry, Infiniti and Nissan are also starting their transition towards electrification. Such investment requires cutting the fat and eliminating unprofitable models. Q60 is one of them.

Essentially a two-door version of the Q50 sedan, the Q60 didn’t last long with us. It was introduced in our market in 2017 with the aim of competing with well-established models in the segment, such as the Audi A5, BMW 4 Series, Lexus RC and Mercedes-Benz C-Class coupe with its attractive design, and the Red Sport version gave the speed of speed thanks to its 400-horsepower twin-turbo V6.

Unfortunately, although it was a reliable car, its controversial electronic steering wheel and interior full of ergonomic problems did not allow it to overcome the fierce German competition, making the model obsolete and almost completely forgotten by consumers.

Infiniti Q60 | The Infiniti Q60 will disappear after the 2022 model year, indicating that only one car will be sold by the brand from 2023 (the Q50). Four SUVs and a Q50 sedan will be available for 2023, and the complete absence of electricity in the range is also felt.

With nearly 3,000 units sold in Canada and the US by 2021, we understand that Infiniti wants to hang in the towel on this model. Production of the Q60 will therefore cease at the end of the year. The remaining models will be sold to dealers in the coming year.

From Didier Marsaud, Communications Manager at Nissan/Infiniti Canada: “The INFINITI Q60 sports coupe will no longer be available in America after the 2022 model year, as we focus on more popular luxury vehicle segments such as crossovers and SUVs. The QX55 coupe and SUV The 7-seater QX60 that was launched last year, as well as our recently announced upcoming electric vehicle that will be built in a US manufacturing facility, are great examples of our future products that have a customer-focused approach and a unique design language that has become a hallmark of INFINITI.

As for the Q50, Infiniti has yet to say anything about its withdrawal. So the model will continue to be produced and sold in 2023, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see it join its twin in the near future. With four SUVs in its lineup and just one sedan, it’s clear that cars aren’t one of Infiniti’s priorities anymore.
