Sergio Garcia (first): I’m not on the radar / Moto2

Few would have bet Boscoscuro newcomer Sergio Garcia leading the Moto2 World Championship after three races. After his Austin victory, the Spaniard explained what makes him stronger this year.

Sergio Garcia entered the Moto2 World Championship last year as the Moto3 world vice-champion. With several top 10 results and 15th place in the World Championship, the Spaniard earned the title of “Rookie of the Year”. However, he also recorded six racing crashes. For this reason and because Garcia moved from Kalex to Boscoscuro in 2024, the Spaniard was not considered the favorite for the title.

But after three World Cup races, the 21-year-old leads the table with 51 points. After his first Moto2 podium in Qatar, he followed up with his first victory in the quarter-liter class in Texas. “I’ve never scored points on this track before. “I always thought about it during the race,” he said, explaining his connection to the “Circuit of the Americas.”

From third on the grid, Garcia took the lead on the first lap, which he defended throughout the race. But some braking at turn 11 ensured the race remained close for the dangerous Spaniard. At the end, he and second-place Joe Roberts (USA Racing) were separated by just 0.492 seconds.

The Boscoscuro driver then gave the reasons for his mistakes: “The race was very difficult. From lap 10 onwards I had problems with the gearbox. I came to neutral three or four times. That made my life more difficult.”

Garcia can certainly understand that he is considered a minor: “My last six months were marked by many accidents and races out of the mark. So I was not on the radar for 2024. But my team is helping me a lot to improve. “I am also working hard to be here.”
