Manchester United have reached the final of the League Cup. Thanks in part to Wout Weghorst’s goal, Erik ten Hag’s team won 0-3 against Nottingham Forest in the first semi-final; return awaits next week.
Manchester United started their dream thanks to Marcus Rashford. The striker, who was in good form, started a solo play from his own half, covered the entire left flank, got into the box between Joe Worrall and Remo Freuler and hit a powerful shot into the left corner. With that, he scored the opening goal in the sixth minute. However, it was not the introduction of the first half for the visitors.

After all, Nottingham recovered from an early goal against and gained momentum. Sam Surridge thought he could equalise, but was found to be offside when he was passed by Morgan Gibbs-White. Gustavo Scarpa’s header from a falling ball was deflected by David de Gea; Brennan Johnson offered to drop out.
Still, the biggest scoring chances were for Manchester United. After a combination that went through Weghorst and Bruno Fernandes, a direct chance arose for Antony, who met goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey. In the last minute of the first half, Hennessey again deflected a shot from Antony, but this time Weghorst scored again: 0-2. In the second half, Christian Eriksen hit the crossbar with a set shot, after which Gibbs-White missed a good chance for Nottingham.

Jesse Lingard came in for the home team, which meant reuniting with his old club for him. Great chances to get back into the game were not pursued again for Nottingham. Before the end, when Weghorst was replaced by Anthony Elanga, Fernandes scored 0-3 and as a result Nottingham needs a big miracle to reach the final. Southampton and Newcastle United will meet in the other semi-final. Newcastle won the first leg 0-1 on Tuesday.
