Audi RS e-tron GT on the track

Audi’s electric plane has already visited our editorial office, but this time we had the opportunity to get to know it better in track mode. At the invitation of Audi, we went to Germany, especially in the vicinity of Ingolstadt. The Audi experience center has asphalt, skid plates, a very large thread and competent staff, thanks to which we can not only have fun, but also polish our skills behind the wheel. During the meeting, I learned some facts about the fastest electric Audi, and the 644 HP drive made the whole day feel like a movie, going through the preview …

Where did this comparison come from? First of all, everything happens quickly behind the wheel of a car that accelerates to a hundred in 3 seconds. The top of the bend approaches at breakneck speed, track graters and seeds disappear on the rear glass several times faster than common sense as it dictates. What the Audi RS e-tron GT does in track mode is amazing. Second – as in rewinding the movie in the preview, here the action is also completely absent. Of course, in Sport mode, the sound of the mock drivetrain reaches the driver’s ears (and outside), but that’s too little to call it “engine sound”. This is not a disadvantage, but a feature of the fastest electrician from Ingolstadt.

Some facts about the Audi RS e-tron GT

At Audi’s test center, which served as an open practice, we had the opportunity to perform emergency brake tests, climb a track, perform a slalom test, and overdrive. This last one was really fun – it was the only time we could allow ourselves to turn off the assistants and support systems. Audi RS e-tron GT with quattro drive One listens to the driver and allows the controlled skid to be extended almost indefinitely. At the same time, it is not as free as a rear-wheel drive, because the electronics, even with a small ESP operation, ensures that the torque is distributed to the individual wheels in the best way, but quick access to torque and clear torque. The preference for rear-wheel drive allows efficient sides, which after a period of practice are very easy to learn.

An interesting discovery was also made by the slalom test on a wet surface. It turns out that the top GT e-tron, despite its weight of 2,323 kg, can turn like a car weighing 1.5 tons. Neutral characteristics and delayed tension control allow you to quickly reach the limits of your skills and grind out repetitive tests. It looks like we’ll tire of it sooner than the car, because the RS e-tron GT is capable of using full power again and again, and the all-day madness on the track didn’t really appeal. According to the instructors who watched us during practice, in terms of repeatability and reliability, the RS e-tron GT is truly top shelf electric cars. I have no reason not to believe you.

Running on a thread

The test track thread in Neuburg on the Danube provides high-speed currents and promotes stability at the wheel. Many sequences can be passed here just by turning the steering wheel a little, but what will happen when an amateur sits behind the wheel – a person who has some idea about sports driving, but does not race or drive to the track every week? Audi’s electric specialist remains surprisingly neutral, and in such situations we can rely on the braking system with carbon-ceramic discs. Considering that we are talking about a road passenger car, the G-forces produced by Audi are absolutely ridiculous. Although the RS e-tron GT is not a perfect car, it shows a face in track mode that probably 95% of owners of this model will not notice. Suffice it to say that when driving in pairs, the ride in the passenger seat ended in dizziness almost every time.

It is worth visiting the track

Of course, the RS e-tron GT has some big or small disadvantages. It costs a lot, and you still have to pay extra for the rearview camera. The back seat, on the other hand, is too small for tall passengers, and the car eats tires painfully due to its weight and quickly asks for more. In the end, however, it’s hard to regret these shortcomings. Especially after a day that turned me inside out and ended up with light yeast. The Audi RS e-tron GT is quiet but also one of the best RS ever made. There are very few cars that can match it in terms of drivability and capability. At times, the ability to stop, corner and accelerate was amazing. The conclusion is simple – it is worth going to the track, to discover the capabilities of your car and discover your weaknesses as a driver.
