The Audi RS6 Avant is a sports car disguised as a station wagon that costs R$1.2 million; test

Two cars are on my quick list if I ever become a millionaire (or suddenly win a Mega-Sena). One is the Porsche 911 Targa: interest, decorate the garage and, of course, take it for a spin at the weekend. Other? This beautiful station wagon, the Audi RS6 Avant, here is painted green with a name suggested after Goodwood, the famous motor festival in England.

The Audi RS6 Avant, for everyday use and commuting, is the one that pleases everyone as it combines performance (after all, it’s 600 cv!) and the durability of the body praised by those who love cars. And here we are talking about how much money? Exactly R$ 1.160.990. Oh, and this color also costs an additional R$57,000. Do you have six numbers to tell me?

A few weeks ago I had the rare opportunity to try it out station wagon at the Interlagos Racetrack venue. It was not green like the one in the picture, but Daytona gray (also from the Exclusive palette and which costs around R$80,000 – or an “entry level” car 0 km), matte and caramel interior. Beautiful. I had already driven the RS6, but not on the track. Not Interlagos.

In S do Senna, Laranjinha, Pinheirinho and Bico de Pato you can feel the dynamic balance in the lane changes, the strong electric steering and the way the station wagon uses the curves.

In addition to all-wheel drive, the car has air suspension with valves that control the flow of oil in the front wheel shock absorber and the spring is softened out of corners. They increase support and reduce body movement. Above 120 km/h, the suspension lowers by 10 mm to make the car more integrated to the ground and increase stability.

There is also a rear steering axle. At medium and high speeds, the rear wheels turn up to two degrees in the same direction to produce greater stability. At low speeds, they steer up to five degrees and increase cornering power – the cornering radius is reduced to one meter, which provides agility in tight curves and makes driving the 4.99 meter long station wagon easier.

At Reta Oposta, Subida do Lago and Boxes it is possible to enjoy all the health of V8 4.0 biturbo with 600 hp and no less than 81.5 kgfm of torque. At the end of the main straight (or a little before) the speedometer shows more than 230 km / h, but the eye is fixed on the cone that tells the driver to start braking.

Obviously, I’m not a driver and I went far beyond the handling (and speed) limit, but I could see how much the car was driving, accelerating and braking. All this is accompanied by a beautiful sound from eight mugs, which scream when you press the speed. When descending, the exhaust pipes with circular exits are music to the ears.

In Autosport mode, a sports center car is installed 4 seconds from zero to 100 km / h (0.4 seconds more than the 3.6 seconds that Audi advertises). By comparison, the R8 with its 610 hp V10, on the same test track, reached the mark in 3.9 s.

Speed returns are a bit similar. From 40-80 km / h to 80-100 km / h and 100-120 km / h, the time remains there, about 2.5 s. It is worth talking about eight-speed automatic transmission and quick, organized, seamless, timely changes.

But everything that runs needs to stop. It’s for. From 100 km/ha 0 is 39.7 meters; from 80 km / h to 0.26 m; and 60 km / h 0.14.8 m – a very strong number. And look, we are talking about a car that weighs 2,230 kg and still can carry it 565 liters in the trunkwhich makes everything more interesting.

The maximum is electronically limited to 280 km / h. If the station wagon has optional carbon-ceramic brakes (which cost the price of a small SUV), the speed increases to 305 km / h.

If the RS 6 Avant attracts attention when moving, stopping is no different. You can appreciate the aggressive lines, the powerful Matrix LED headlights, which are an attraction in themselves when you start or stop the car. A large hexagonal grille is present, with only four darkened rings in the middle and the Rennsport (RS) logo placed discreetly at one end.

The profile adds body and large dark wheels complete the look. At the rear, highlights include LED taillights with adaptive lighting, a diffuser and dual exhaust tips. Not a single corner speaks against it.

After the experience on the track, it was time to face the real life of Brazil’s potholed streets. And the RS6 Avant showed a very interesting side. In the most “comfortable” suspension setting, the station wagon performs well on uneven surfaces.

Actually the fit is not soft and big 22 inch wheels (shoes on low tires, 285/30) does not help, but the occupants vibrate very little. Ready 2.93 m wheel They provide comfort for only two people, as the central tunnel is too high and affects the legroom of the passenger traveling in the middle.

Inside, the tested unit had a modest finish, mostly dark, but everything was perfectly finished. The instrument panel, the Virtual Cockpit, with a 12.3” screen, has graphics unique to the RS, but it is starting to show signs that it needs, at the very least, an update.

As for equipment, the Avant is well equipped: four-zone air conditioning, electrochromic rearview mirror, head-up display, cruise control, intersection assist, lane departure warning, 360-degree cameras, park assist, system audio from the Bang & Olufsen brand, USB ports and climate control for rear passengers. Audi also closes itself if the door is “badly hit”, like “sucking”.

The new generation of the RS 6 Avant debuted in Brazil at the end of 2020. Last year, in Europe, the station wagon began to have the name Performance. The interpretation of the nomenclature means a large turbocharger with high pressure (from 2.4 bar to 2.6 bar), which increased the power of the V8 to 630 hp, with a torque of 5 kgfm more or 86.5 kgfm in total.

None of these have arrived in Brazil and Audi has not confirmed if they will. But there is no need. The current car will remain on my list. Of course, I’m still waiting for those six magic numbers. Email it, please.
