The exciting and eventful 2024 MotoGP year is coming to an end. Our colleagues from motogp.com took this as an opportunity to pick the best saves of the season. There were quite a few of those this year – many riders pushed their bikes to the limit and defied the laws of physics.
At speeds of more than 350 km/h, even the best motorcycle racers in the world can make mistakes. In addition, there are special characteristics of the route, the weather is unpredictable or sometimes defective. All this can lead to a crash, but sometimes MotoGP aces do small miracles to stay.
Top five saves of the 2024 MotoGP season:
Pedro Acosta
In his rookie season, Pedro Acosta had more accidents than all MotoGP riders – 28. But sometimes the 20-year-old man managed a remarkable rescue – as in FP1 for the French doctor in Le Mans, when he had one for turn 6 The front wheel can catch a fall. He ended up in a gravel trap, but his RC16 remained on two wheels.
Maverick Vinales
Maverick “Top Gun” Vinales narrowly avoided a crash at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya when he chased down Yamaha rider Fabio Quartararo and hit a curb with the rear wheel of his RS-GP. The act looked spectacular and resembled a rodeo ride.
Enea Bastianini
During practice in Assen, Enea Bastianini became a monster when the Italian had a rear wheel slide on his Desmosedici GP24 and just managed to avoid crashing.
Marc Marquez
What would a great save list be without the master of this discipline: Marc Marquez. The 10-year-old in Indonesia was the scene of a spectacular rescue operation when the eight-time world champion narrowly avoided falling over the front wheel of his blue GP23. The whole thing happened during training for the Indonesian Doctor – just like in his best Honda days.
Fabio Quartararo
“El Diablo” showed very quick reactions in Q1 in Thailand GP to stay on his Yamaha M1. He later made it into Q2 with a fast lap.
